fuel economy?

my 89 3/4 4x burb 6.5 with banks th400 and 3.73 gears. was getting 15-16 with a 700r4 short trips around 4-5 miles with little idiling. now with th400 same trips its getting 12. I didnt expect the mileage to drop that far, any idea what 3.42 would do?

The 700r4 has a deeper first so the engine works a lot harder to get the truck moving with the 400

the TH 400 is a HP Pig! youl never brake one but they use up quite a few ponies plus you dont have a lock up converter or a OD gear anymore

The 82 Sub I have with the 6.2 and 700R4 gets over 21mpg on a regular basis with a 3.42 rear, 4wd turned off, and the standard 235/75r15 tires. I'm going to experiment with a different setup and see what I can get. My highest was years ago when I got nearly 30, but that MUST have been one hell of a lucky day.

I love to hear things like this! I'm making plans to build my '79 Cherokee with a 6.2 turbo and 700r4, it'll be AWD, but I want economy that'll let me drive it on a regular basis.
