A friend at work has a turbo, that he got from a buddie's totaled truck. He said the truck was a 99, but didn't know if it was early or late 99. Would the compressor outlet be the bets way to tell?

Nick already gave me a spare, but can you ever have enough spare parts? If the turbo is from an early 99, my friend won't be able to use it. His dually is an early '03...

99.5 turbo has a larger compressor outlet, the pedestal height is higher, wastegate is mounted horizontal instead of vertical and wastegate shaft is longer, it has an intake air heater, it has a 90* fitting for the MAP hose so a common straight hose can be used for the F and E series. All this from the Ford update changes. I have the PDF, but can't copy it or send it, it's too large.

From Ser# 896812 on up is the 99.5. Ser# is stamped on the rear drivers side rear of the oil cooler on a pad.
