What I'd do is unbolt the carrier (support the driveline where it is). See if the carrier bearing and housing "springs" into position one way or the other. If it does, you need to adjust the mounting holes to where the bearing is when it's "relaxed". If that makes sense.

I'd love to run a 1 piece shaft but it's a crew cab long bed . It's about 20 inches too long for a 1 piece to work and not wobble

I might have to try loosening it up and see where it likes to sit. It might just work. I want to post pics of the truck but i guess you can't do that from a phone. I'll have to upload em to my laptop so yall can see what I'm working with.

It's just the ford rejecting the dodge parts. Anti rejection meds are in order.

Seriously though, you said the dodge trans sits 2" higher at the output? That could be a serious bind as short as that is to the carrier. I'm betting a custom carrier mount will be in order to take all the bind out of this.

Take a picture of the slip yoke. Does it have enough travel to extend when the rearend drops? Most the time the splines would pull past the seal, but the seal may be preventing it from pulling out and pulling on the carrier.

If you go to the single drive shaft be aware that the two drive shaft yokes should be parallel to each other. You will get vibration if they are not. You can shim the rear end to match the tranny angle. Also make sure the u-joints are in the same phase.
