I'm helping my buddy put a Cummins in a suburban. He can't figure out what to do about the tranny. He wants to keep the 700R4 cookoo . What do you guys think he should do?

I don't know how to do this link business; but there is a site for Cummins conversions and there is a couple of guys there that have successfully swapped Cummins in Suburbans.

The address is www.cummins-conversion.com or somesuch like that.

I think This is the link you wanted to post.

cpep, if your guy wants to stay auto, the path of least resistance
would be putting in a Dodge auto.

I have driven a 12 valve powered Chev pickup with the GM trans and it was programmed for a higher revving engine than the Cummins. If he is using a 24 v or HPCR it'd probably be OK or a 12v with a good governor spring kit to get more revs. Given the prospect of making the Dodge PCM work with the rest of the Chevrolet I guess I'd consider using the TH also. I think that with near stock power it will hold up OK; they are pretty soft shifting and very easy to have the converter unlock. Although it sounds like the 'Burb is old enough to not have a locking converter?
