Can a C6 operate without the vacuum pump?

Correct. And no need to lift your foot off the throttle when shifting.....just shift. It shifts under load like a "normal" automatic.

The vaccum pumps are so prone to failure I'd rather not waste money on one. Ideally I'd like just an 1 wire alternator.

Same here, my 7.3 is on it's 2nd vacuum pump in 377k miles. My van unknown, and motorhome also unknown, i've never touched it in the 13 years i've had it.

got my '92 the one died, my friend owns it now and has been through about 4, then my '85 went through 3, as soon as i got my stroker it died so i converted to HB and a SD vac pump.

Does anyone have any info on the manual valve body for the C6??
