im running a 87 F350 CC LB.

this last weekend I spent my time yanking the 6.9 out
and installing a 94 turbo 7.3 non powerstroke.

stupid questions:

1) is this still considered an IDI?

2) in this picture the tube that's coming out of the discharge nozzle, is a oil return line. am I correct?
if so, where is the best place to dump this back into the crank case?

3) do I attach the wastegate to the vacuum pump along with my brake booster and cruise control?

I appreciate the help in advance!

Uh that line on the front, the steel line with the plugged hose clamped to it, is the wastegate line. Hook it back up to the wg actuator, especially if you dont have a boost gauge....

Oil drains back underneath the turbo, through a casting that is bolted to the intake.

Yes it's an idi.

Hope this helps

on mine the line with the red hose is going to the can on the wastegate, the oil return should be on the back of turbo where CDR used to go in valley pan. and yes it is a IDI. ill try to edit one of my pics to show you

Awesome! You people rock!
Now to find a schematic to hook the alternator up, and see if I can fix my damn fuel sender to read the actual fuel level

If I run this thing without a down pipe, am I in danger of killing the turbo?

Without the down pipe the exhaust is dumping in the engine compartment. Will definitely make a huge mess. May cause a fire. Won't hurt the turbo unless you burn off the oil lines. I still wouldn't recommend it.

Lol very green! Couldn’t believe you were asking about the boost line as oil return! But we all start somewhere so it’s always good to look back and see where we started. I’m sure I got some forum posts on websites that would make me palm my face hard

Well, considering that boost line is probably full of oil...

The cool thing is that not only is it an IDI, but everything external crosses to your '88, and most internal parts do as well.

My '93 looks just like that... but it's got an '88 long-block under it, from a prevoius owner.

yep, super green!
it is what it is.
but now I know better,
the only other turbo I had delt with was on my SD and it has a totally different wastegate system.
lets just say, I was relieved when it was an easy fix LOL
