Anybody know why the earlier 7.3 made 338 f/lb torque and the later one made 360 f/lb?? I can't remember what year the specs changed, but I was curious as to what changes made the later 7.3 slightly more powerful.

    Thanks all

Maybe the turbo'd idi's made that much? Only change in the 87-91 7.3 and The 92-94 that I know of where the injection pumps having a torque screw.

I believe the 84-87 6.9 made 338 ft/lb, and the 7.3 made 345 ft/lb to start with. Maybe in 92 they were upgraded to 360, but i,m not sure.

According to forgotten diesels .com all 7.3 n/a from 88-94 have 360 tq and the turbo'd 7.3 idi had 388 tq.

It should make 360 Ft. Lbs. The Turbo engines made 388 Ft. Lbs. if that information is correct.

The 6.9 made 315 Ft. Lbs.

I am relatively certain that a slight increase in the compression ratio netted that difference.

    A model low compression 6.9 83 models had 315 ftlbs and 170hp:puke:

B model when they upped the compression it made 175 hp and 338FTLBS

    The 7.3 from 88-91 made 180 hp and 345FTLBS

then the 92-94 NON TURBO engines made 185HP and 360 FTLBS

Finally the 93 and 94 turbo idi made 190HP and 388FTLBS

    The 94 powerstroke makes 210HP and 425FTLBS

I personally own an engine from each era and my 83 model 6.9 has more power than the powerstoke i do have a 93 model idi turbo kit on it, but it will eat the powerstokr even when the powerstoke is running perfect and not missing like it does sometimes,

I can tell you there is not alot of difference between the engines and how the run power wise, and that with enough fuel and timing tweaks an 83 A model can out run a stock powerstoke cause mine out ran our psd with ease when mine was still non turbo, sounds likr the psd has the advertised horsepower right?LOL

You aren't arguing with me, Tom Brewer provided that information for the Tech articles.
