I recently pulled the motor out of my 1992 F 350. The clutch had been changed and the solid flywheel installed. There were no washers on the bolts ? There was a red permatex on the threads. Is this normal to not have washers on the flwheel ? If my memory serves me right this was a kit that included the bolts.I assume the permatex is a sealant as well as for retaining the bolts ? Thanks in advance for your help.

There are 2 reasons for the thread lock. One is it will lock the thread and bolt so it wont loosen up and yes.. That has happened a couple of times here. Next reason it these bolt holes are drilled thru the crank flange to the engine oil side of the oil pan. So if no thread sealant is used you are guaranteed a nasty oil leak. Oil will leak out past the threads and you ruin the clutch. Remember the 2 top and bottom bolts for the water pump also have to be thread sealed because they also reach into the oily side of the engine.
