Just to be clear, I am not the leader of the shortcut brigade. Just reporting what I read some time ago, since the OP did not seem to want to take the engine out, just bolt on a turbo that he could get. It is good to have options from which to choose, isn't it?
I bought a truck that ran but smoked a little and ended up rebuilding, boring and balancing the entire engine just because it needed head gaskets. That is my normal SOP. It also has studs, just in case.
