Buying a running 6.9, just the motor. Plans are to rebuild it, but that's down the road. I have an '88 7.3, and I'm wondering what parts swap between motors? Injectors, lines, manifolds, etc. Anyone know?

I believe the heads have different sized bolts and a different cooling passage. I THINK the heads can be swapped using special studs but I'm not sure. I believe the valves, rockers, can be switched however.

Almost everything. Lol
Obviously pistons are a different size.
Early press in squirters obviously won't work in place of bolt in one's and vise versus.

7.3 heads can go on 6.9 but visa versa requires enlarging bolt holes

Pistons dont swap over or rings

As far as I know every single other part swaps over both ways except press in oil squirters

Only the earlier 6.9 used the press in oil jets, later ones are bolt in same as the 7.3. IIRC the break is around sn 179,000 (~Jan 85)
