I look from time to time on craigslist without seeing much, I'm sort of looking for a diesel ZF5 to convert my '92 460 to a 6.9 TD, are they out there? What should I watch out for? How can I identify a diesel unit? I passed up a unit from an early superduty for $400 -cuss because I'm a *******! It will go in a 4x4.

Edit...how difficult is it to convert it from 2wd to 4wd? I have parts from my 460 at my disposal.

To see what's involved in doing a 2wd-4wd conversion do a search for "brown truck under the knife" threads and it's one of them.

About the ZF, I have an extra one but wouldn't let it go for less than $1000. Its worth that as a core.

Nope, thats just what the tranny shop wants extra if you don't have a rebuildable core. Kinda BS if you ask me but they are hard to find and I can't just let it go.

You don't want to sell it :D $400-500 is what people who want to sell them seem to ask, core prices are usually high so reman guys don't loose their engines.

I have one that I might be willing to let go at $700. no cracks or repair welds in the case. good used, not out of one of my towtrucks. If it came out of a towtruck, you can be guaranteed you will be spending some $$$ for replacement hard parts.

Haha, yea I really don't. lol But I thought if you were having some serious trouble finding one I'd let you know where there was one at. It actually belongs to my dad, and he doesn't part with anything cheap. rofl.

$100-$300 is the going rate for an S5-42 and $300-$500 for a 47 around here.

There are tons of ZF's out there. Ford made quite a few 80's and 90's diesel trucks.
