22.5s on a dually-what width wheels??

The salvage yard by me has gotten a buyout of 22.5 alcoa wheels. All are from 18 wheelers (kenworth/peterbilt) and all are 8.25" width for $150 each. Do the commercial 22.5 kits (southwest / chromewheel) use 7.5 or 8.25 wide wheels?? I am thinking of using a set of 255/70/22.5 tires on my 93 F350 4wd. I am trying to do this on the cheap so please spare me the "just buy the kit new" posts. the commercial kits cost more than what I paid for my truck.

Unless you really like the look be prepared to spend atleast 300 dollars a tire for a cheap rib tread. I wouldn't put 22.5 wheels on a F-350 I would consider 19.5 wheels first they look better the 22.5 wheels on a 350 screams bling bling.

Why not I put 315/80 22.5 super singles on one they were an off road mixer tire agresive tread I paid like $170 apeice for them new and so far got over 300,000 miles on them and they look good. Plus if you haul weight in a lifted pick up it is the only real way to go. An aftermaket oversize mud tire does not even come close to the stock tires GVW. 22.5 are the way to go in my opinion plentlyful tires and aroung here cheap anyway.

It's going to ride like brick, with that much added unsprung weight. Plus it will be extremely rough on steering and suspension components.

Just my $.02.

I was running 44 x 19.5 x r16.5 super swampers and they were heavier, more expensive, wore out sooner, had less GVW cap and rode worse than the 315/80's. and were half the price. It is the only way to go if you are lifting a truck and still want to use it.

thanks for the input from someone who actually has first hand experience. I have driven two F350 trucks with the big tires with both 22.5s and 24.5s. The 1996 had 255/70/22.5s and it drove nicely with 50/60 lbs of air in the tires, and handled better than I would have thought even with 140k miles on the chassis. He also picked up 2mpg in fuel mileage towing on the interstate (runs around 2000 rpm @ 80 mph w/4.10s). The truck with the 24.5s was a 2003 and was a little over the top as far as ride height (14" lift) due to the tire size (mud tires). I have a line on new take off michelin RV/truck tires (drives and steers) for 140 ea from a local motorhome conversion shop. for $1000 he will mount and balance them and have them trued as well.

I would really like 19.5's for my dually-ized F-250. I only worry about my tires when hauling my Alpenlite camper. I also want to have all aluminum wheels which is a problem with the stock Ford hubs. I think 19.5's on aluminum is probably about the same weight overall as stock running on steel aluminum combo. Those steel inner wheels are really heavy. I can't afford the Ricksons and you still end up with steel inners, the kit is over $900. I think Arrowcraft actually makes them for the other vendors. I really am annoyed at Ford's choice in odd bolt patterns.

Not trying to hyjack the thread, but I have just a quick question on the bolt pattern. I know my truck (2000 F-350 4x4 dually) has the 8x170mm bolt pattern, but car-part listed the 450/500 in 99-02 using the same 8x170 bolt pattern. I thought the 450/550 were using 8x220mm? If the are in fact using the same bolt pattern, are the hub bores the same? I'm wanting to switch my setup to 245/70R19.5, as that would get me a good load range H michelin for a little over 200 each. I'm wary of the 22.5s due to brake performace reduction, and the price. :(

Apparently you don't own a lifted truck? Because if you did you would know that that is all you have is unsprung weight when you lift one. The 22.5 conversion is used primarily on lifted vehicles anyway.

Price??? you ever bought a super swamper? You will be happy to buy 22.5's then. Plus In my area 22.5 commercial tires are rather cheap as far as I am concerned. Hell 1 swamper is 400 plus bucks and you can't load the truck up and use it either. I have one of the only trucks around that is lifted to the sky and can still as does get used as a truck.

I was comparing the price and size between a 19.5 vs 22.5! :backoff :rotflmao

I believe the 8.25 rims will work. 255 and 265 tires will work on 6.75, 7.5, and 8.5 inch rims. The suggested size is 7.5, but it will work on the other two. As far as prices: 19.5 tires= $359.00 - $489.00 retail. This will be close to the prices of 22.5s, but......if you know any truck drivers, you could get "National Account" prices and save about $100.00 off each tire. Not to mention the 14 and 16 ply truck tires will last you AT LEAST 150,000 to 200,000 miles (even loaded), compared to 30-50,000 miles from any D or E rated Mudders, or Swampers.

ok I been considering doing this type of swap. However I cant find adapters for the wheels on my 95. Any IDEAS?
