I have a chance to get my hands on an 89 fullsize bronco. I havent really got a good look at it yet so I dont know what I'm in for. If its worth fixin up I'll fix it up a bit and play in the woods with it. If its not I'll probably end up parting it out. What engines do they run in these 302's and 351's right? This leads onto my other question, whats the differnces between the 351 windsor and cleaveland etc. I know there are others right?
Thanks

Chris

the 351 windsor is completely differnt from the cleveland and modified.the 351 modified is basicaly the same as a 400.the 302 and 351w are somewhat similar.the 351w is a little wider and i think a little taller than the 302.most broncos came with the 302 and some had the 351w.the 351w and 302 use the same bell housing and motor mounts while the clevland,400,351m,460,360,390,428 areall big blocks and use larger bell housings.if i remember correctly the 351M,400 and cleveland use the same bell housings, the 460,390,360,428 use the same bell housing.i believe i used a 360 bellhousing, flywheel and mounts to put a 460 in place of a 351M in a 79 F350.

its been years since i messed with fords.

It could also have the torque monster 300 six. Possible trannys in 89 are the C6 with the 351 (prolly not though), AOD with the 302 or 300 (again prolly not though), E4OD with the 351, 302, 300 (most common auto in 89), M5OD (only with the 300 or 302), or the T18/19 (again not to common in 89).

Transfer case could be the manual BW1356 or if automatic it could be optioned with the ESOF BW1356.

Any bronco questions feel free to ask away!

Bout a good quarter were in the 80s. Last year for the 300 was 93 in the broncos though. But still not that rare in that year.

Also no AOD with the 351.

I remember the full size Broncos with the 300. Didn't they go from the C6 to the E4OD behind the 351s but had the AOD only with the 300 or 302? Was the AOD ever behind anything bigger than the 302?
Hey Adrianspeeder, did they use the 351m in the early full sized Broncos then go back to the 351w? The FE series (352,360,390,428,429) was gone I believe before '78. That would leave the M series 351-400 for big blocks. How about the 460?

Correct. The AOD was only with the 300 and 302 in the broncos and F150s. Only way to get the AOD with a 351 was in the crown vic I believe. From 80-87 the 351s could only get a C6 for the auto. 88 was the intro for the E4OD. 78-79 broncos did not have the 300 or 302 and recieved the 351M and 400.

The E-350 school bus I am using has the 351W with C6. The 351W being an out growth of the 302 the AOD should bolt up. Doen't think it was rated for the torque though, this being the reason for it only showing up in a car. So after '80 there was no big block in the Bronco?

These guys are correct. the 351/400M came in the 80 and 81 models. The main motors used in the Broncos are the 300 6, 302 and 351W. The biggest problem with 89s that I've heard is the trannies. They started swapping to the AOD in 86 with the 302 and started putting them behind the 351s in 87 I believe. I'll agree in saying the 300 six is one of the cooler motors provided. Check out Steve 83s superford link I believe he has a 300 six and has lots and lots of general Bronco info.
