1st gen questions need answering

Im looking to get a 1st gen single cab long bed 4x4... had the 5 speed in it but has a fresh auto with converter for it.... my question is how easy would it be to put in with a floor shifter and what model would the auto normally be...

So it had a 5spd getrag in it to begin with but its not in the truck? Is the auto already in the truck or is it included with it or is this something you already have?

What trannie depends on what year the truck is and if the previous owner swapped an OEM trannie in. These trucks came with a Torqueflite 727 3-speed auto from '88-'90 and the A518 4-speed auto with OD and non-lockup converter from '91-'93. The A518 is a 4-speed version of the TF727. The 46RH found in early 2nd Gen trucks was a direct swap fro the A518 and is a common upgrade.

Personally the person who swapped in the auto was a fool. The autos are notoriously inefficient and weak without major upgrades. The 'Rag was a much better transmission.
