I didn't even know my vacuum pump HAD changeable oil  the one on the truck when I got it was squeaking so I got a new one...
I put very few miles annually on it, how many miles on each oil change?
yep.. the 2.4 liter turbodiesel. It was a good engine but too underpowered for the ocean-liner-sized Lincoln. The BMW 524td was only sold here on '85 and '86. Due to tightening emissions regulations (and low sales), they decided it wasn't worth supporting in the US. The last time I saw an ad for...
You don't say. :flipa Apparently you don't have the right attitude. Whereas in Greece, Mercedes is practically synonymous with taxicab.
I liked my '73 220D but with 60 hp and a 4-speed, it was slower than molasses. Even slower than a 240D!
There is nothing so simple that a German engineer can't overcomplicate it. I've been driving and fixing my BMWs since '88, with a few MB diesels thrown in (until I outgrew that... and the price of diesel went higher than gas and never came back down). But when everything's working they really...
Just wondering if there's any way (without removing from the truck!) to estimate how many miles are on my IP.
The dash said 186K when I bought it several years ago, now 194K. I am fairly confident that that is NOT the original PSOM (the wire going to it is spliced, and the truck just seemed much...
The top halves of the plastic mounting pieces are intact, so I hung the trim panel on them and bolted each end to the tailgate where the metal clips used to live. And a screw in the center into the middle plastic brace. It's not going to come off now and the two bolt heads are barely noticeable...
The trim panel on my tailgate fell off today... one end came loose because the flimsy sheet metal clip broke, and then the bumps did the rest.
Looks like I need the clips and the three large plastic mounting pieces too. Any idea where to get them? thanks.
What is your setup (which turbo, pump, engine)?
I added a factory turbo to my 7.3, then replaced the worn-out turbo with a CDD Stage 1. Stock pump turned up 2 flats. I found that the wastegate would also start to open prematurely even after shortening the rod, and limit the total boost as well...
You won't believe this either, but I meant to fill my rear tank while I was in town today, and I forgot to put any diesel fuel in it :p
I also checked the oil, and was pleased to see that it was still just below the full mark, about where it was when I fixed the turbo pedestal leak. It's...
First, welcome to the forum :)
Why do you need a bigger IP? The NA 7.3 can only breathe so much air. Unless you have a turbo and didn't mention that ;) Either way, that's too much timing, especially for a turbo engine.
I agree you need to search and read more threads here. But to begin with...
I found the Facet 40285 wasn't *quite* enough by itself when running more than the stock 6 psi boost on my 7.3... fuel pressure warning light would come on above that. But a mechanical pump feeding the Facet works great, doesn't run out of fuel pressure at 12 psi boost which is all I dare to run...
I hauled a couple of old tables to a friend's house who will be refinishing the tops... the throwout bearing is all-quiet once again. Will keep an eye ear on it...
It's a '65. The F-350 didn't change (like the F-100 and 250 did in '66) until '67 though. Extra attention is required when buying parts, as most catalogs show 100 or 250 ;)
Today I ran a couple of errands in the IDI - and heard for the first time a rumbling noise when holding the clutch pedal...
That's German engineers. I've been driving and working on my BMWs and Mercedes since 1988 and that absolutely seems to be a core tenet of their design philosophy...
I was one before going back to school. What are you trying to say here? :sly
Most engineers won't win any personality contests but in general we do know what we're doing...
This reminds me of an experience I had 30 years ago in Dayton... there was a diesel shop near me who was supposed to be an authorized Bosch service center. So I sent them the pump from my Mercedes diesel for calibration. I put it back on the engine - and the idle was totally unstable, revving up...
My air intake (after installing a factory turbo setup) is also a piece of 4" metal dryer hose, open on the end. Unfortunately I too have found that it's a packrat highway (boost disappearing, more smoke, and filter restriction tell-tale pegged!). I need to clamp a piece of hardware cloth (like a...

Today I replaced the missing trim clips on the two strips either side of the steering column. Now they don't fall off every time I hit a bump ;)
Also filled it up with diesel at "only" $3.39 a gallon...
