    7.3 Heads on a 6.9

I recently rebuilt a 6.9 and used 7.3 heads on it. I had the machine shop mill .550 of the bottom row and used the 6.9 ARP stud kit along with the 1/2 to 7/16 insert washers.

    C6 Flexplate Upgrade

It maybe the way to go but I would be worried about taking all that weight off. I'm not sure why the factory did it that way but I've never had a problem with it.

    C6 Flexplate Upgrade

That's ok nobody knows everything. I've had it apart a few times. From what I remember there is the heavy cast iron flywheel and that plate bolted to the crank shaft and the torque converter bolts to that plate not the cast iron flywheel.

    C6 Flexplate Upgrade

Yea I like my C6 also especially with the GV behind it. I found a place awhile back that sells the flex plates looks like they still have them. Here's the link: http://www.seauto.com/Diesel_Products-FORD_FLEXPLATE_DIESEL_TRUCK_OEM_SEE_ADDTL._DESC..html

    Vacuum Reservoir ?

Mine isn't hooked up. Its been like that ever since I got the truck. I think its used to help the interior vacuum controls but I could be wrong either way everything works fine without it on my truck.

    Jasper 7.3 IDI?

I have a jasper reman in my truck with about 30k on it and the engine it self is ok but the ip and injectors were complete junk. Edit: Oh and jasper went way over kill on the rtv on the engine I got and it got sucked into the oil pick up screen  luckily it didn't clog it completely but...

Stanadyne G and D code pop test

I didn't wright any numbers down but it defiantly took more $ to drive the same amount of miles. I thought it was kind of strange the G codes popped at 1900 psi too but there is another YouTube video showing that they pop around 1900 also. Here's the video...

Stanadyne G and D code pop test

I figured I would make a couple short videos pop testing some injectors. The G codes I just bought brand new have a manufacture date of February 2014 and the D codes I bought last year off eBay have a manufacture date of July 2013. The D codes have around 2000 miles on them and the G codes are...

    Pre-Cup Needed

Update I tore the engine down and took the piston/rod assembly's, crank, balancer, and flywheel in to be balanced and one pistons were out 7 grams, the rods were out 10 grams, and the crank was out 7 grams on the front 12 grams on the rear. Everything is within 1 gram now but it wasn't far...

    Pre-Cup Needed

I thought I read it in a forum somewhere but maybe I misunderstood it. I am definitely going to take my time to make sure everything is as close in weigh as I can get it since I cant stand it shaking the way it is. I cant wait until the day that it runs so smooth that I cant feel it running.

    Pre-Cup Needed

Yea there's a lot to it. I am also going to check the cam gear to see if it has those two threaded holes and if it does its going in the scrap pile and I'll see if I can find a good one. The only thing I'm worried about is how far the pistons are off because I have heard you don't want to remove...

    Pre-Cup Needed

When I first saw the .040 stampings it kind of scared me but then I remembered that I heard others had problems with dropping sleeves in jasper engines and I figured it would be better to have it bored 40 over than sleeved to standard. Now all I have to worry about is cavitation which I think I...

    Pre-Cup Needed

I did take a look at that and with the engine running I cant see any wobble in it but that is not saying its out of balance. I did reuse the flywheel/flex plate contraption from the old engine and it didn't shake anywhere near as bad as this engine. I am going to try to have the flywheel/flex...

    Pre-Cup Needed

The pistons and block are stamped .040 and it doesn't look like it is sleeved but I couldn't see the bottom of the cylinder and all the metal looked the same at the top.

    Pre-Cup Needed

Maybe Jasper should be added to The Oilburners hall of shame? Its kind of crummy to pay 5 grand for an engine and then have to rerebuild it. I understand that I could have warranted it but I probably would have ended up with some other problem with it. I took a quick look at the pistons when...

    Pre-Cup Needed

Well I figured I would do a little update. I checked compression and #7 was at 490, #1 was at 440 and the rest were at 480. I'm thinking they are a little lower do to the head gasket change but I'm not for sure. I pulled off Fel-Pro hg's and put on victor reinz hg's. I don't think the...

    Pre-Cup Needed

Ill redo the compression test and check cam lift. I was just out letting it idle and sitting in the drivers seat it kind of feels similar to when a tire is out of balance. If I bring the rpms up slowly the shake comes and goes up until about 2,000rpm then it smooth's out a little and stays...

    Pre-Cup Needed

I did take the inspection cover off and start it then I just looked under at the flywheel and I could hardly tell it was even moving. But that was just eye balling it. I don't think it has a dowel pin in it but I'm pretty sure there is a place for one. Maybe that is the problem. I did use...

    Pre-Cup Needed

Yes if I remember right there was a large washer under the bolt heads too. Do you know if that set up has been known for causing balance issues?

    Pre-Cup Needed

It has the heavy flywheel and a metal plate that bolt to the crank. The converter bolts to the plate.

    Pre-Cup Needed

That #5 rocker was loose before I replaced the lifters and after I replaced them I ran it for a little while and rechecked all the rockers and they were all good and snug. The old lifters looked all the same length and the same as the new ones. I thought it was strange too. That is why I...
