End of this chapter --- bought & installed the made-up NAPA positive cable for this truck -- the cable between the 2 batteries was a 2/0 (so was the portion running to the starter) and was a little too long -- turned the drivers battery to where pos pole was on the outside -- worked great...
Hey -- Beast-O-Master -- followed your instruciones - disconnected driver's side negative -- truck started immediately. Then reconnected same -- then disconnected pax side negative -- no dome light, no nuttin' ....
Borrowed a good multi-tester for the big red positive cable -- mostly tested...

Hmmm -- I'll get exact readings after 2nd cup but, amazingly for me, I did test ohms yesterday -- meter tested at zero ohms but red wire tested at 5 or 6 -- somewhere in there -- I'll check again -- nice to know somebody who knows "THINGS"
Both batteries test very good, separately & with no leads attached -- leads are clean/solid -- well, I think if you separate the positive lead from pax side battery it definitely won't charge -- maybe I'm not understanding you.
When engine is running, pax side battery shows it is receiving 14.4 volts when measured between the posts. Driver's side battery shows 12.8 volts. To me, that means there's a problem in the big red wire running from the pax side battery???
7.3 = most had a springee thing & ball --- got rid of it years ago -- put a plug & a plug in the return hose -- Classic diesel design return kit deletes that port
A/C system is all original - R-12 still used --- haven't been to a shop yet, but lemme throw this out there for the pro's that are here......
Turn A/C on -- air blows cold -- really cold. After about 25 minutes, air turns warm/ambient temp -- compressor is short cycling. Turn system off --...
If you use the fuel heater delete kit from Classic Diesel Design, it comes with a metal plug to get rid of that return line (plastic plug) off the filter head
