IDI owner looking to buy VW TDI
Hows it going all. Just wanted to get some info on reliability and repair costs with the VW 1.9 TDI. There's a '97 Passat close to me for sale w\ 220K miles on it. What's the life expectency on one of these if taken care of. Any known probs? I've never driven one, so I'm going in cold on this...- quickster45

Afterglow cycling won't stop
I was driving yesterday and looked down to see the voltage gauge going back and forth. 10 min. It works normally, 10 seconds when cold. But when the engine temp gets warm enough that the cold idle switches off, it starts to cycle. Has something to do with the afterglow relay.Thats built into the...- quickster45

Votage drop when coolant warms up-
sorry 91 f350 7.3 just went out and tried starting it again. I can hear the clicking in there with all the noise. It's constant, but erratic. fast then slows down, then fast clicking again. And it doesn't stop- quickster45

Bypassing the Glow Plug Controller 6.9l IHC
does this work for solid state GPC, or older ones. I have a '91, didn't see any purple wire.- quickster45

Thought maybe glow plug controller prob, still might be but thinking maybe something else going on now. My voltage gage in the truck bounces back and forth when the glow plugs do the afterglow, but stops if the truck is cold. But once the coolant warms up, the needle on the gauge starts bouncing...- quickster45

Went out this am to check for loose wires and such, being the plugs are being cycled long after starting. Started it up, and it cycled(volt gage needle back and forth), for about 10 seconds, and then off. That's the way it is normally. It's running at high idle because it's cold--didn't have to...- quickster45

Afterglow cycling won't stop
the wait to start light stays on 8 to 10 seconds when cold. I was thinking just to replace the relay. Going out to look for loose wires and such in a little bit. thanks- quickster45

can it be removed, or do you have to buy the whole glow unit? Never had to replace one yet. My third diesel, this is the first time this has happened. thanks for the reply.- quickster45

Afterglow cycling won't stop
Hows it going all. Now this started about 2 weeks ago. After start up, the WTS goes off, but the volt gage keeps bouncing back and forth. So that would be the afterglow cycle,right?
