    Drive train experts...please step inside!

My experience. Bought my 97 zf5 about 8 years ago with 177k on the clock. It had a vibration mostly noticeable at highway cruise speed for me, 65-70 and anything close to 3000+ rpm was always a challenge like it just didn’t want to go there. Also with a heavy load, 15-20k lbs, in lower gears it...

    Intermittent cruise control

Don't forget the easy stuff. Brake pedal switch, clutch switch and the one that got me, the ebrake switch. Stick a toe under the ebrake pedal and make sure it's all the way up next time cruise doesn't go.

    Roof rack options?

I couldn't find anything a few years back either. Ended up going with a Thule on my leer camper top. It's been 3 years and some rough trails and it still works well, not cracks.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

Apparently a hard part to come by. Mine has a crack in the housing and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement. I don't have time to convert to e-fuel right now. Any of you that have gone electric have a spare laying around your willing to sell? Thanks Bob

Just bought a 95 from out of state

Went through all the same feelings when my 94 was totaled by a drunk. Found a super clean 97 that was identical and bit the bullet. The IDI was easier to work on and being all mechanical always felt reassuring. Took me about 2 months of daily driving before a had that same feeling with my...

    OBS stroke value.

Not sure how true that is. Might depend on the insurance company I guess. My 94 IDI Turbo, identical to above except engine and with 220k miles was totaled and my the insurance company at gave me a check for $7700. Used that to buy the 97 in my sig with 170k miles for $7900. (Reg Cab fan here)...

    Had to replace my 94 IDIT zf5 4x4 3:55

Ended up with a replacement I'm happy with but I have to switch to the PSD forum (Link Below). :( The reason for the switch is supposedly still in jail and didn't have any insurance. While the concept of uninsured motorist insurance sticks in my craw, thankfully, I grumbled and paid it anyway...

New PSD owner. Not but choice, but I like it.

Loved my old early 94 IDI turbo with zf5 and 3:55 gears. Had every intention of hanging on to it for many years, but some Drunk Driver decided otherwise. Some before and afters of the 94 and it's replacement. A 97 PSD that is close to it's twin, zf5 3:55LS 4x4. Super clean with 167k on the...

    Broke something again.. pic

Once you have both lines off, you should be able to compare and/or measure the length. The most important thing being that the line length remain the same. To prove ToughOldFord out the length of the 6.9 without adapter should be the same as the 7.3 with adapter......simple.

is all az fuel a bio blend?

Known as B20 (5>20). Great stuff for our engines but, if you haven't already, you need to make sure your return lines and o-rings can handle it. Mine started leaking pretty quickly after about the 3-4th tank (they were old and tired anyway). Like ethanol, I'm betting we will see more and more...

    fuel filter bs!

It's standard thread just inverted. "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy" If you're standing at the passenger fender you should be cranking it towards the firewall.

2 wheel drive LOW range? Quick question...

+1 This. I use it all the time to move heavy trailers around, especially in tight situations. You get the advantage of the lower gearing (zf5/3.55s for me) without all the stress on the front drive line.

    Found this interesting ford document...

Observations: 1) 6.9, 7.3 and 7.3T all have the same replacement crank, I thought the turbo crank was different. 2) 6.9, 7.3 and 7.3T all have different heads, I thought the 7.3 heads were the same. Although it does say the 7.3 and 7.3T have the same casting number.....different part...

What do you add to your fuel?

I've upgraded my return lines and o-rings and run B5 almost exclusively. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area that has plenty to chose from and is seldom cold enough to be a concern. This map seems to be pretty current...

09- 10 seats in an older truck??

Can't speak for seats that new, but I changed out the bench in my old 89 for one from a 96-97 f150 and all I had to do was drill or knock out the nuts on the bottom if the bench itself and it mounted in those same holes to the 89 seat tracks. All told it took about 20 minutes.

    Replaced front leaf springs

Thanks all. If I had to do it over again I might consider a 2" lift spring with a slightly lighter capacity. The replacements I got are pretty firm. They don't hit as hard as the bump stops did but not a lot softer. Maybe they'll soften up over time but after bouncing off the bump stops for the...

    Replaced front leaf springs

I replaced the front leafs today with a new 3500lb set from General Springs and didn't really gain the clearance I was expecting. The old leafs had about 3/4" inch of travel at the bump stops and I was hitting them constantly. I was expecting something closer to 3 inches, but there is only...

    B99 Biodiesel...

+1 In the long run you'll need the Viton orings plus you'll need bioD rated return lines and filler hoses. Site member typ4 can hook you with the o-rings and return lines. In the short term you can probably run a tank or two without issue. B99 is pretty strong. I did the orings and return...

    1994 f350 7.3 idi turbo??

I own a 94 IDIT 4x4 with factory ZF5......just sayin. 240k is not much. I'm at 220 and it still pulls strong. Besides the usual used auto things your looking for a cold start (not prewarmed for you). Glow plugs light should come on for 9ish seconds and it should start pretty well instantly...

Moving to states-different diesel laws in Michigan?

Can't speak to Michigan, but when I moved from AB to GA in 1999 I had to get certification letters for both my vehicles from their respective manufacturers. The letters stated that they either met the NHTSA rules for their year or what needed to be changed to do so. At the time I had a newer...
