I drove down Cummins Road and brought back an '88 crew cab flatbed. It takes about an hour to drive 15 miles down the washboard on that road. Had to ford a stream that had washed out the road about 5 miles in. It was about axle deep. I brought it back on the trailer behind my old green plow truck, since that's the only one I have running.

Two things. What's wrong with the way you did your work? Also, you may have to remove the fuel pump eccentric before sending the cam in to Russ.

It's hanging from the loader on my tractor. Horribly unsafe because the hydraulic rams could leak and drop the engine on me. At least that's what they say. Sure accidents happen but....

Yes I messaged him to ask the proper method because I noticed the new one doesn't have it on it.

These days, it's also dangerous to live in a large city, but I'll bet they won't recommend against that. Besides, your lifting device is rated for a lot more than it was lifting.

Yep and I know better than to stand directly in the "line of fire" anyway.

Yeah, never get under any raised Hydraulic system.
They have a piece of metal like channel iron to put along side the ram as a safety.
Even a raised dump body on a truck has a leg you drop down for safety.

Yet we trust a cheap Chicom Engine Hoist Ram with a 1000lb engine hanging on it while installing it.

I was running a JD 544 loader pushing sand up in a pile as the trucks were bringing it in getting ready for winter. Go up the pile, dump Bucket, shake it and the guts of the Ram shot out and ...Bam Bucket dropped. This Loader had just one large Ram for lift and curl. It did have a lot of hours on it.

Blew a hose on the 4 in one bucket, on the Ford A62 and the Dresser 510.

Was hauling butt back to the yard after running a JD 672A Grader all day. The main hyd Hose, (3/4 inch) where the metal coupler is crimped on, blew off. Was slowly loosing all hydraulics, and ran it down a high dirt berm and the blade dug in and stopped me. There was 40 some gallons of Hyd oil trail down the road behind me.

Had a guy running a Flail mower on the 3 pt hitch. Something got tangled up in it. Shut it down, but failed to drop the safety leg, and it came down on him as he got under it and killed him.

My JD 950, knew the Loader Rams were tired. It wouldn`t lift a 7.3 engine out of my PU, but could curl the bucket. bring to the shop, get off to get the Dolly out of the shop, and hear this Bang...Bang, and the lift Rams were bleeding off.
So downed it and got all 4 rebuilt.

As I use to kid around at work, "Safety first, unless it get`s in the way of production".

But yet, we still take our chances.

Today? Today I vacuumed out the truck and have to post it online for sale :/ I have decided to re-enlist and with being on a ship 6 months out the year having the truck just doesn’t make sense. We’ll keep the family SUV and after a few years at sea I think I’ll try and hunt down the dream rig…

Also posting a nice 88 Lance pickup camper if anyone near Idaho wants a solid hunting home base or adventure getter. We had a blast with it as a family of four and two dogs. May the diesel gods be with you my fellow oilburners! Been a real pleasure conversing these last 5 or so years. Keep these trucks on the road!

I wasn't very excited to do a whole lot over the weekend. All I could think was "a holiday weekend and it's going to be 100+ all three days? "F" it!" and didn't do much. All I did today was to go grocery shopping which isn't too exciting by itself, but when I stepped out to my truck, I had a surprise waiting for me. I found two boxes of treasures waiting in my driveway. Since Kansas is the #3 cattle producing state in the country, I'm not terribly excited by the partial cow spine or what looks like a cow pelvis. I can find those all over the place. The rest, however, appear to all be deer skulls and antlers. Someday, I'm going to hang all that I have up inside my garage for decorations.

Coastie Goat! EM or electricians mate. I need a year of sea time to rank up to E-6 so I’m going on a cutter out of Astoria Oregon. Primary mission of the ship is drug interdiction so hopefully some exciting times and good port calls.

It’s a 3 year billet in the CG when on a ship. And thank you for serving! I’m sure there’s some good sea stories you got out of it. I’ll be back for certain. The goal is to square away finances and then when the time is right pickup a crew cab to be final truck. That way when as the family grows the truck will still fit us all for a good vacation!

Cheers mates
