I've seen those pics before, probably over at TDS. The winch adds a lot of weight. My bumper is for self defense in adverse traffic conditions! :backoff Mine looks like it came off a cement truck.
I put them on my 03 to help support the replacement bumper (~300 pounds). Firmed up the ride nicely. Some tackle this job themselves but a spring and driveline shop quoted me $135 to do the job so I let them have at it. They were done in 2 1/2 hours.

For what it's worth, I go to one of the "Inspection Only" shops here in Charlotte. All they do is state inspections and rip people off on windshield wipers (that's why I buy new ones at Wal-Mart before I go). Anyway, I don't think they even look at the exhaust on diesels. They didn't know...
How about in the bed? I bought some gravel for the yard and the net load was over 4,600 pounds. The truck handled it fine but I won't be doing that anymore. Hell, the truck handled it better than I handled unloading all that $#!t!!!
If you have an 03 6.0, it's worth it to go ahead and replace the crunched up POS downpipe and the restrictive muffler with a turbo-back system.
I believe the downpipes are much improved from 04 on, so a BTM is worth a try.
