The IDI broke down Tuesday two weeks ago. One of the first real hot days we've had up here and I was stuck in stop n go rush hour traffic picking up another starter for the DD Ranger (which I just replaced in Feb. so I got warranty coverage cookoo). Decided to stop in at Mcdonalds for an iced coffee with the wifey and came back out to a puddle under the truck, coming from the inspection cover on the trans. Started her up and ran 30 seconds and got a steady leak so I shut it down right away and called a tow truck.
Ended up bringing it to a transmission shop that was recommended and had excellent reviews as well. They pulled it out and found a bad pump seal and replaced it. While it was out, I got them to install a Transgo shift kit and 4R100 pan with a DRAIN PLUG which I had been planning for a year to do myself... eventually...
And the most expensive item was a new torque converter! Went with an HD billet, extra low stall triple disk, brazed, etc model. Cost about $900 CAD for that. Figured I may as well get the stock out of there. Been driving it a couple days now and I'm loving how it shifts and locks up! Went with a mid-range firmness on the shift kit. No more ridiculous slippery shenanigans when I'm down shifting at freeway speeds or with heavier throttle.
TC and shift kit are at the top of the list of my favourite mods so far.. and now I've got a better base to add a solid turbo system to some day...

Big thanks to all the members here on Oilburners who've shared their knowledge and in so doing, helped me spend my money on worthwhile upgrades! :hail

Got the '92 in the sig that has been sitting at the farm for at least a couple years. When I parked it out there it had bio-diesel in it. 100% in one tank if I recall correctly. Years later it has precipitated a dark red-brown goo. We discovered this after getting the truck running and driving it around the country block. Ran ok. Next day crank no start. Basic trouble shooting...Check if there is fuel. Yup. Check fuel filter.
Good grief!

Replaced the filter. Truck started and ran. :)

My brother bought a car in Ft.Saskatchewan which is about 70 km from the farm. So, we filled the tanks with diesel and headed out in the truck. It started dyeing when letting up on the fuel pedal quickly. Rather annoying when you're heading into a left turn. We made it there.
I thought the truck seemed sluggish, so I advanced the timing a bit while my brother finalized the car deal. IIRC, I had retarded the timing to run with the bio-diesel.

It fired up ok, and seemed a bit better, but hardly noticeable. We made it home ok.

In the evening I got the idea to try the ATF in the fuel filter procedure...until I pulled the new filter off. It was worse than the first fuel filter!

That is why there are two bases in the picture. The dirtiest one is with only 140 km (87 miles) on it.

The truck would not start the next day, with a third fuel filter. :( Gummed up Injector Pump.

We spent the day replacing the IP and injectors and pumping the fuel tanks out. Got it done and took it out for a spin to warm it up.
Wow! Did that wake it up! Got back after a good run and timed it. 12* BTDC with the Ferret. Set it back down to just under 10* BTDC.

Yes, I had the parts with me. :sly I suspected this might happen. Especially after my brothers attempts at trying to start it.

The goo stays liquid in the fuel, but if exposed to air turns to a hard plastic. My brother thinks its polymerization happening. I recall reading something about bio-diesel doing that when exposed to oxygen and steel...like sitting in a vented fuel tank for years.
When we pumped the tanks we ran it into a stainless steel pan. The goo stuck to the bottom of the pan really well, meaning it was a b!@tch to clean! I cleaned the filter bottom with gasoline. It kinda dissolved it, but only kinda. It was a pain cleaning it off.

End of report. Going to buy a lottery ticket, I seem to be on a lucky streak. :D

That looks more like an algae bloom going on in the tanks. Very difficult to get out of the fuel system too. you can kill it but then the dead crap gets pushed into the filter and injection pump. Bad mojo right there.

I didn't do anything to my truck today besides drive it, but tomorrow I'm FINALLY getting started on the Hydroboost swap. I'm off work until next Tuesday, but hopefully it won't take that long. There are only so many things I can mess up, right? :D

The part I'm dreading is the pedal swap, playing under the dash is NOT my idea of a fun day. I have no idea how much $#!& I have to move or disconnect to get the old pedal out and the new one in, I've never messed with anything under the dash before so that's gonna be the adventure of the day.

I tore the front yard up with mine. Gloss over of you don't like long stories, lol.

So since All State still hasn't called me about fixing my culvert (after another one of their customers hit it and now it doesn't drain), my yard is soggy all the time. Haven't had time to ride them about it with my wedding this past weekend. I needed to move our camper back out of the yard and into its spot to get things torn down and stored for our upcoming camping trip. The Enterprise got stuck being 2wd, so I tied a 2x4 to the slipping dual wheels. Of course the driver's side then started to slip and I was out of rope, so I ratchet strapped another 2x4 to the driver's side rear. This only works unloaded btw. Ratchet strap broke and the rope on the passenger side fubared the outer tire valve stem. So she gets unhooked from the 5th wheel camper and is STILL stuck. So I peeled out the length of the yard and had to one man pull the Enterprise out with Bruiser. Then empty the bed and swap the 5th wheel hitch into Bruiser's bed and hook up. I get the camper out onto the gravel and start backing it up and she stalls. No start. So I start disconnecting Bruiser from the camper and...great...another fender mounted starter relay exploded. So then we had to take the wife's POS Ranger into town for a new starter relay and steel valve stem. I come back and get the new relay in Bruiser and it sticks on. In removing the cables I managed a 2nd degree burn on my index finger and 1st degree burn on my thumb from the retaining nut. I FINALLY get Bruiser started and start pulling away...I forgot that the tailgate was up :frustrate F*** it! Only good thing on the truck anymore is the rear axle and cab. I beat on the tailgate until it would clear the king pin (camper battery was weak) and got it moved around and kicked the tailgate flat. Swapped the 5th wheel hitch AGAIN...
Then I decided to move Bruiser into her spot to rot some more until I can make up new battery and starter cables (didn't want to risk having to restart again) but I had to move the wife's Ranger (she kinda parked in the way). I backed it up and square into one of the legs for the new carport and broke it. D***it! Get Bruiser parked, get the camper backed up with the Enterprise. Jazuz what a day. Then, just for good measure, when I put the giant trash can in the bed of the Enterprise, I got slammed right on top of the head with the lid. I'm done with BS for the next couple years...and a lunchbox locker hit the top of the priority list for the Enterprise.

Last weekend I reworked the craptastic intake tubing with stuff I had laying around. Managed to get EGT's down a bit and the metal 90* elbow that was on the intake when I bought the truck is gone and will no longer fall off while driving.

Yesterday I cut the soup bowl out of the intake and I would call it a significant improvement. EGT's are now down to about 500*F while cruising at 55-60 mph on about a 75* day. It's much harder to touch on 1200* on a flat highway (couldn't do it before 65-70 mph). A new Motorcraft air filter is suppose to arrive today as well.

Well after my fruitful yesterday event of changing out the leaking number 2 cylinder hard line I drove about 4 miles today. Starts up smooth. No miss as sometimes it did before. Idles smoother than I recall as does it drive easier too. So fr no leakage at number 2 hard line nut on injector. I found a cut in the flair and really can't figure out where it came from. Unless I scratched it tying to make up the connection to the injector long ago. and then over time the high fuel pressure wore the scratch deeper to what it is now...:dunno:rolleyes:
