im taking your guys recommendation most likely 2 ga

the numbver i spat out earlier was for 60-80A alternators.

you guys are right the larger amperage needs the larger wire.

no such thing as overkill in this situation.
oah yea and a separate ground clamp will be used.

Put a maxi fuse on it too...ever shorts out have fuse save it...hopefully.

IIRC I set my maxi fuse value 25 amp below rated output...

I just ran a single cable to my 3g 130 - The second cable I looped onto the other post. Might not be ideal, I don't know.

I too ended up purchasing a one-wire alternator from DB Electric, but because I am running V-belts, this was the model that I purchased:

http://dbelectrical.com/p-4713-new-ford-truck-car-220-amp-high-output-alternator-1965-1992-7749.aspx

As someone else said, the alternator needs to see some rpm before the residual magnetism will energize the field and to start charging. I have read that it may be possible to connect a switched hot source to the the green wire on the alternator connector (will require a new connector) to flash the field immediately so that the alternator will start charging at lower rpm. This may also fix the issue with the alternator warning light not working. I have been able to get DB Electric to answer these questions, and don't want to "just try it" and fry the regulator. If anyone knows these answers, it would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note, rather than use the fuse setpoint supplied wit the alternator, i went with a marine type 200 amp circuit breaker. This is a bit below the 225 amp rated output of the alternator. I was able to mount it in the location of the original voltage regulator. (see photos)

Not very happy with power master right now.
I expected an alternator with the black finish and only 1 wire showing.
Instead I got this.
I coulda done tht....
Am I being too picky?
If anyone has a DB ELECTRIC 1 wire, does it look like this??

Here are a few pictures of my one-wire alternator from DB Electric. Hope that they are helpful.

You will note that I kept the original alternator to battery charging wire and ran the newer heavier gauge 4-0 wire in parallel with this. I also found a replacement connector to the voltage regulator to provide a connection for the green/black wire in the hopes that this will restore the alternator warning light function. Have not tried it as yet.

What you have is what I'd expect from a 1 wire 3g. The regulator is attached but has an external harness. Shorten the wires and tidy them up if it bothers you but that's more or less how it's gotta be.
