Banks power sidewinder 2nd gen installed on 93 F350 7.3 , I been seeing oil leak beside the starter so i isolate it to the Oil drain return tube coming from the turbo , Banks sent me twice a gasket that non of them looking like the one installed . However the platform of the turbo body look identical to the rectangular shaped gasket.

You can see the one far right is the new one ..

Did they send me the right one. I also Ice picked the VP since i am already there . I dont want to do this work for the 3rd time

Which one should i use

weird.
all the turbo's ive ever installed had o-rings..
but they were all Garretts.
093's TP38's and GTP 38's
seems like a ghetto way to drain the oil....
maybe your tube is damaged?

i dont know how the drain tube is clocked, but id be looking into threading the drain hole, and installing like a -8 AN line to the valley pan.

Well that's how Banks turbo drain/ return the oil back , They use this flex tube to enter the valley pan allowing oil to return back into crank case gehtto way for sure , Every thing is working corretly with exception to the leak by the gasket so no need to re-engnieer what they did .

let me see if i can describe it better.
the hole on turbo center section.
where the oil tube goes.
to drain oil.
thread it.
install fitting.
get a tube.
route it to valley pan.

all my turbos have pedestals that do this for me.
all of which are cast aluminum.
sealed by 0-rings.

or if you have welding experience.
cut tube out of flange.
make thicker flange.
weld a 1" piece of pipe on it.(i would TIG weld it)
use a heater hose type hose.
hose clamp the hose to the pipe you just welded(after its cool)
install with new gasket(the one on the left)

You will need to use the gasket that covers the area. Not much more to say. Only you can tell us how both gaskets fits. You do know that flange is moveable to the corrugated drain tube. As for the dent in the drain line. What made that? You very well could have a damaged drain line too. To test if the line has a hole in it. Do this. Plug the bottom end with anything. Maybe some tape. Make sure the line is clean inside and out. Now stand up the tube and fill with diesel. If any diesel leaks out of the standing tube you have a leak. Diesel goes where gas can't and gas goes where water can't. In short diesel will show the smallest leak. If diesel wont leak you have no leak.

icanfixall .. I am not sure what dented the drain line as i am not the original owner and was asking that myself , Bought it like that . The new gasket floats on top of the circular tube entrance leaving no possibility of oil to leak, However the oval one could allow oil to leak which it did if the gasket is weak assuming . But again i do not know the history as i was not the one to install it .

I did plug the tube by my hand and did air leak test but i will do the diesel trick you mentioned.

Idiots ; I always wanted to learn how to weld specially when coming across stuff like that but never got around it , Doing the mod requires removing the turbo and truthfully i will avoid that at all coasts it's simple PITA :D but thank you for the tips

Yeah, got one like that, did away with the damn flex tube. Silver soldered a copper tubing to the flange and run it over and into the drivers side valve cover, had to double gasket the flange to keep it from leaking. Good Luck with your's. Had a pic of it but lost when my mputer c

oldbull8 .. i was always wondering why they never came up with a better design like the one you described but rather they choose that stupid VP drain , I was thinking of a new way to re-route the drain. If you could dig that pic .man that would be the ticket

Do you recall which gasket was the right one by any chance

If the gasket is the problem, why not make a new one from gasket material that matches the old material?

If you hold the piece of gasket material in place over the flange you have and tap it with a small ball peen hammer around all the edges, it will print a perfect outline of the new gasket you want to make.. then cut on the lines. If you have a hole punch you can clip out the bolt hole areas. If you don't, you can use the ball peen hammer to tap the edges a little harder and the gasket material will cut at the hole edge. In the old days, used to make a lot of gaskets that way..

Get some extra gasket sheet material and make a couple of "practice" runs.. I bet you'll have the gasket you need in a few minutes.

I have the same setup on the new [to me] 92 F350 with turbo, however, I've not done a teardown on it yet [has blown head gasket, so I'm "going there"].

My judgement says the gasket that fits the flange on the tube, not the one with a square hole in the center.. however.. I'm only guessing the exit drain shape on the turbo matches the tube flange plate.. Might use an inspection mirror to verify.

If it matches, then make a new gasket yourself and seal it up. "Should" work..

G.Mann the new gasket matches 100% the exit drain shape of the tubo not the the flange ...
