may be a silly question, but was wondering if fueling our trucks while they are running is ok or not recommended? dangerous? my starter is getting weak and the less i have to start the truck the better till i can replace the starter... didn't think about it yesterday till i needed some fuel and shut it off.. thanks..

I ALWAYS leave my diesels running when fueling. I don't think it is dangerous. No in tank pumps, no ignition system generating big cuurents etc...

No problems at all, unless you are carrying a lit flame thrower. For a number of reasons, diesel fuel is way safer and more stable than gasoline.

Yeh - but I think you will find that it is illegal ! Might be worth a consideration especially if the police are around .

As long as you arent in yuppie ville usa i would think you would be allright. I have done it multiple times and the only time anyone said anything was in a ritsy neighborhood in houston. I turned the pump on and walked back to my trailor to check tie downs on the load and this guy started screaming at everyone to run I was going to catch the whole station on fire. The cops showed up and I did get a ticket. cant recall the exact name of the charge but it was something along the lines that I was making people feel threatened by having a weapon in plain view in my truck. The 30-30 was riding shotgun as it normally does. Stupid cop told me that I had to conceal it so I wouldnt cause a panic. Ticket got dropped when I filled the judge in on that tidbit.

Diesel is so differant from gasolene. Gas will not burn.. Its the fumes from the gasolene that ignite. Now diesel has to see 940 degrees before it will ignite. To make diesel hot enough to make fumes is more than our electrical systems can muster. So the fool in the texas station should have been ticketed for making a false alarm.. Stupid idiots with little more brains than a flea dictating how we live our lives is killing this once great country...

I think it's smarter to leave the car running when fueling weather gas or diesel. when you start a car the starter motor makes sparks and the fumes are on the ground near the starter. makes more sense to leave it running to Me

The gas fumes are everywhere at a station, but must be in the correct ratio of oxidizer and have an ignition source to burst into flames. Diesel can have all sorts of ignition sources (go ahead, light up your stogie) and oxidizers (air) around, but if it (the fuel) isn't hot enough like Gary said, it is just going to sit there. You can have a vat of Diesel next to a Tesla coil and nothing will happen. It needs the heat to burn. Our engines replace actual heat with heat inducing high compression.

That gas station doofus in Houston watched too much television and was ignorant to boot. Your judge made a good decision.

I always leave my truck idling when getting fuel unless I have to go inside and pay or get snacks or a drink, if it was illegal then why do all the big trucks at the truck stops idle whikle getting fuel? That dummy in texas that caused that rucus should have gotten fined for being a moron.
