Now aint this ironic

So this morning i went out to my truck to continue working on my cooling system. i go to the drivers side door and i see that it is not closed all the way. did not think much of it. so i prceeded to open the hood. i close the door and i am walking around to the front of the truck and i glance back inside the cab and notice that my center console looked different. i decided to investigat further. i have the two cup holders in the console that flips up to reveal a center seat. well there is a thing that slides out to cover the cup holders. that slider was out covering the cup holders. two days ago when i quit working on it for the night the cup holders were open. i had a thing that would plug into the DC power point so i could listen to my ipod through my speakers in the truck. that is gone. i have a pair of golf shoes in the back seat and those were moved. once i discovered all this i went to the passenger door and it was not closed all the way just like the driver's door was.

I am thankfull that nothing is physically damaged or missing on te truck. as far as i can tell they did not take my fuel.

For now i have locked both doors and discontected the elec connections on the IP. that is what i will be doing until i get an alarm system or kill switch.

My neighbor came over a little while ago and he said that he had some stuff stolen out of his truck last night aswell. he said they took a gps unit and his pain pills for his back. he said that the people that live in the house in front of him said that there was a big party that was going on right across the street from us. pretty safe to assume it was kids from that party. it must have been kids b/c he said that he had a bunch of tools in the back of his truck and they did not touch those. i guess they did not want the tylenol and cassete tapes that were in my truck. can't imagine why they would not want cassetes.:dunnoLOL

Sounds like your doors were sort of open because they closed them gently as to not make a loud bang after they had rifled through your stuff...

Had the same thing happen to my mercedes in my driveway when I was working on it. I had left it unlocked. My dad's car was unlocked as well, because it was a rental and he forgot to lock the manual locks. They stole his GPS and some other stuff. Luckily they found the kids that did it later that week though.

As for my truck, my glow plugs are on manual so someone would have to know how to operate them or else the thing wouldn't start. It takes at least 10-15 seconds of cranking before it'll fire with the glow plugs. And with the garage I'm in now it's LOUD when cranking and not to mention how loud it is at idle in there.

ya that is what i figured about the open doors. the thing about the car jacking though is i don't want to have the engine start at all. not just delay them 10-15 sec. How did they find the little ********?

The only thing worth stealing in my tuck is the CB (Free) and the headunit ($10). If either of those went missing I wouldn't really be out much cash but some good equipment. My truck has never been locked since I have owned it and the keys are always in the ignition.

ya. honestly i could care less about what they stole but it is the fact that they came onto my property during the night an went into MY truck and snooped around and took my personal property. you really feal violated. I was thinking about it and i really don't know what they feel like they acomplished, i mean i guess they must be some real hard ass to go up to some bodies truck in the middle of the night and open the doors that are not locked and take some $20 electronic device. they also took the USB adapter that i use on my phone to listen to music threw headphones. so that kinda sucks.

Oops, forgot, Even if they could get the truck started without GP's and ALOT of air in the lines, They wouldn't accoplish much............The Flywheel is in the basement, the clutch is on the garage floor and they would have to figure out which of the 3 transmissions is the good one to try and bolt it on before one of us came charging across the road with the 10Ga. :backoff:backoff

Well I been working on this ole POS for long enough that I'd be pretty damn pissed off if someone stole it. Its been broken into several times just sitting in front of the house but now that its all tricked out, or about to look like it is I'm thinking I'll definitely put in a kill switch. I think I like the starter solenoid switch idea the best, although the shorts out at the starter idea was pretty slick as well. I'm thinking hide a solenoid switch under the floor mat with a foot switch.

so now to go investigate starters and figure out what wire will do the trick.

well back to thinking about this and want to DO a switch now since i have some time with the turbo being shipped off.

i would like to wire a toggle switch in line with the FSS on the IP. i want it so i have to flip the switch to "on" to give power to the FSS. there fore if you don't flip the switch it can crank all day long and won't start.

how do i go about wiring up a toggle switch in this manner?

I now have a more advanced kill switch set up, designed to make anyone trying to steal my truck run, while all the neighbors are looking out the windows wondering why a train is coming through the neighborhood!!

would you mind explaining this? i wan't train horns just for horns, but if i could sell my parents on them for anti-theft that would be cool to.

I have a very simple "Alarm" system, I took the solenoid start wire ran it into the cab and hooked it to a

ON- OFF -ON switch (hidden nobody can find it)

ON 1 is simply hooked to the solenoid for start and the other

ON 2 is hooked to the horn, So if they try to start it the horn blows and I'll tell ya it scares the crap out of me when I forget so I know it will them too ,+ I have a hood lock the 70's era trucks are too easy to steal with the ignition switch so low in the dash, I know its not fool proof buts a little insurance.
