Hey all, the cruise control on my '94 stopped working. If I'm not imaging it, it seemed like it was having a hard time holding the set speed on a few occasions before it quit completely. Any ideas on where to start looking?

Vacuum lines from the distribution block to the cruise control thing.

I assume the circuit is tied into the steering column for the buttons, and the brake light switch, maybe the steering controls are messed up?

On occasion, my brake light sw. Warning light will fire, then go away, the wiper knob has gummed up and failed to run the wipers, thinking connections in column or vacuum system.

I had my wiring harness for Cruise Control replaced, there is a recall on our trucks, risk of fire. Harness plugs in beside brake reservoir.I have 1994 IDI Turbo Diesel.

Thanks! I'm assuming that you had a dealership do the replacement, how long ago? Wonder if this is a viable option for the USA, I like new parts;)

IIRC if it's a recall... it has to be done no matter how old the vehicle is. They'll just vin check.

I'm thinking the 94 should be electronic and not vacuum. @saburai correct me if I'm wrong please, I thought the 92-93 and up were all electronic.

They replaced the whole cruise harness? I was under the impression that recall was just replacing the switch on the master cylinder.

Rich here's a sticky with diagnostic information. https://www.oilburners.net/threads/electronic-cruise-control-diagnosis.13161/ I know the wheel controls work on different resistance values, I don't remember what they are but they should be simple to check with an ohm meter.

You rock Chris!
Correct, no vacuum on my cruise control.
I'll look at the diagnostic link tonight and dig into it tomorrow if I find some time.

The recalled part is down by the frame behind the steering box..brake light switch kicks it off.... (On mine).
Lemme know I can look in my 93 fsm and hope it is listed...

I hope your cruise starts working again tomorrow. Mine is that way. It will work for months, then quit half way through a road trip. Some times its out for a half hour, sometimes for couple of days. I haven't looked into it, because it works more than it doesn't. I drove to key west last christmas (2800 miles round trip) and it worked about 3/4 of the time including the whole way back.
FWIW I have had the recall harness replaced on mine and it didn't change anything.

Cruise is nice and all, but what's wrong with your right foot?;PokeLOL
I've got a hip that has seen better days not too mention a bunch of funky discs in my lower back and a broken neck. It's nice to be able to move around and stretch on longer drives without having to stop to do so....
Not to mention that my right foot is heavy and I'm not as strong as I once was:rolleyes:
