K. As title implies.

Swapping 3.55 short spline out for 4.10 gear set W long spline.

Thus it currently is tapped and utilizes straps n bolts.

I ordered U bolts instead becauze they are ultimately stonger and easier to swap out ujoints 1/2" wrench IIRC vs Torx driver.

No issue to drill out yoke here either!!!

So...

who is for straps?

who is for ujoints?

Why your choice??

I think I'm gonna have to go with u bolts. The straps don't seem to hold as tight.

U-bolts are stronger/more stable.

HOWEVER.... I want 1410 u-joints ask the way around and it's a PITA to find 1410 yokes with U-bolts. And I've never been able to get a ratchet on u-bolt nuts (have ratchet wrenches now), but I can get a ratchet with a torx bit attachment on the bolts for a strap-type yoke.

U-bolts still stronger. Just don't crank 'em down, it'll destroy the needle bearings in the u-joint.

Prefer flanges, but if I must choose, ubolts just for strength. Even though o have broke a few of them.

Ya U bolt torque is far.more critical than straps...seen guys double wrench em and I am like..whatcha doin that for...dont want them come lose or break....i be like well they will break now....

About 12 -18 lbs ft...cant recall but not much.

2 × wrenches and you be in 30+lbs ft easy and distortkng cqps taking out ujoints and u bolts.

Clean U bolts...not too tight and Blue locktite...yer good!

Doesn't one of those take the ******* u joint and the other doesn't? Check close. I think the strap takes a standard 1330 and the ubolts take a ******* with two bigger caps. Maybe I have it wrong.

your not wrong.when i went from the '93 rear (long yoke) to a '89 rear (short yoke) i had to get a conversion u-joint.toss the u bolts and get the strap kit.

The 1990 F 350 u joint is same as my long spli e yoke.

The 889 or what ever it is zf f250 sc has the same U joint size as my F350

I tried to use zf driveshaft and coukdnt...when switch to long spline will use it.f350 and ex cab zf truck use strap type uokes.

All you need do as far as I know is go to a competent parts guy...Kaleb....measure yoke and u joints and order correct sized U joint bolts.

Drill out yoke and utilize the u bolts instead of straps.

We will see tomorrow when the ubolts come in.

i have used and abused both.
beat up both like a hot and ready ****** on prom night.

you can claim that 1 is stronger than the other all you want.
without numbers its all hearsay

i use whatever the installed yoke is designed for.
i have no preference over one or the other.

2 bolts, or 2 nuts.
i guess what Al, is askin is ..
do you prefer to play with bolts or nuts?
