overkill is under rated!
I have done some really dumb things in the past, and apparently I still do! I rebuilt my engine and spent a pretty penny doing so. New pistons, as 5 of 8 have been cracked for some time now(and still daily driven for past three years) new rings, new mains, new connecting rods bearings and wristpins and bushings, new crank, new valves seats and guides as well as springs, new lifters and pushrods, all new accessories because I begrudgingly switched from v belts to a serpentine set up and cleaned up the cylinder walls and got really nice cross hatching. Also new stage 1 injectors, new 110 ip, and intercooler kit and gtx 3582 turbo, and arp head studs as well as fel pro head gasket set all from Classic Diesel Designs minus the head gasket kit. Went ahead and threw in a new luk clutch kit with pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bearing, and throw out bearing. Had a few issues getting the lifters to prime (dumba$$ strikes again) and got that figured out. Started behaving better. Then I pulled the dipstick, milkshake.... Did compression test as well as leak down test. All were wonderfully holding between 417-420psi for 20 minutes per cylinder with minimal leak down. Keep in mind I only had 5 minutes of run time so the rings aren't even set yet. Checked numerous times to see if radiator level had risen/shown signs of bubbling. This girl had almost 900,000 miles on her so cavitation is a possibility. She was used HARD and put up wet the majority of her life. Abused one might even say. No bubbles, no rise in level. Scratched my head, dumped the oil, got 3 1/2 gallons out of the pan. Added 1 1/4 gallons of distilled water to the radiator. Well all my fluids are there and accounted for, but where are they mixing? I put a newer, known good oil cooler on it with fresh gaskets and o rings. Fresh oil after dieseling the inside of the block out. Ran it for a few more minutes. More milkshake worse than before. Pissed. Throw in the towel, posted up on the marketplace. Yesterday, "did I put rtv on the water pump bolts?" Well il be a ****** I didn't.....(Dumba$$ strikes again!) Damn thing runs beautifully. Broke down at the gas station cause( here it comes again!) I didn't tighten the battery terminals. Slapped new batteries on it today and the damn thing wouldn't fire up no matter how hard I cranked it (yup, you know it's coming) wife found the main 4 guage lead from my glow plug controller not on the battery terminal after changing the batteries. And if you seen this truck on fb marketplace, no it's not for sale anymore! And yes the ac still works beutifully.... Y'all have a blessed day.
