Ok, this truck belongs to the company I work for. It's got about 320,000 on the clock now, and this week developed a new problem. For the last 20k miles it's had somewhat low high pressure oil readings (all numbers in post from an NGS) of about 550psi at idle along with a rough idle with IPR...
You could give me about $3500 for my turbo and I'd throw in an intercooler, aluminum piping, good engine, 6 speed tranny, dually disc brake rear end, alcoa wheels, and everything else bolted to my turbo....
Well, I fixed the valve problem, and the truck still for sale. Due to complete lack of budget and the fact that I wouldn't see an adequate return on the repair cost to completely rebuild both heads I repaired the only giude that had an issue. Anyway, if you know of anyone looking for a cool...
This is the truck that has the Super Duty 6 speed ZF fit into it along with several other cool modifications... This truck started life as a standard F-250 pickup with the 7.3l diesel, automatic transmission, and non dually 3.73 drum brake rear axle. At around 80,000 miles I added a Hypermax...
Hey - do you guys think there's a market for a pre-made stack kit for these trucks? I do mandrel tube bending, and could make a system for all the under bed parts to be a bolt in project...
A couple of weeks ago I had a teenager look at my truck interested in buying it. It was about 20 degrees out, and I purposely did not start it prior to him showing up. I realized he didn't know a thing about diesels when he didn't seem impressed with the cold start! I've only driven the truck...
It sounds like the sound file Billy Goat posted here from his truck: http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20843 Mine got to be much more pronounced, though.
The funny thing I found was in the valve seals. The intakes looked like I expected - positive seals with springs to keep...
I just added a post with some pics showing exactly what makes that noise in the exhaust.
Look at this post: http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21301
When you start to hear that "CHUFF" noise in the exhaust it usually means that you had an exhaust valve guide go south. Mine went from barely noticable to very pronounced in about 2000 miles while I was on a trip. I finally yanked the head and here is what I found:
See the valve with #2...
I can bend you whatever you want from aluminized. I have a mandrel bender and 4" on 4" centerline and 4" on 6" centerline radius dies. But, those prices mentioned above sound pretty good to me!
My truck makes the same noise - you've got a worn out valve guide! The sloppy guide lets the valve wobble and not close fully causing the "chuff" sound in the exhaust. You can probably hear it muffled around the valve covers as well. Mine is to the point of leaking exhaust into the valve...
Dirtleg - I have the perfect opportunity for you! I have for sale right now an idi truck with one worn valve guide that hasn't yet proceded to the "drop" phase. You could buy the truck and do an in depth study on it. If you drove it home to VA from GA it might even decide to drop the valve on...
Yeah - I hate to get rid of it, but I'm not using it and it's only going to go downhill if I do nothing with it. I hadn't thought of Tanya and BJ - are they still on the forums?
Ok guys, I'm tired of seeing the idi just sit at my shop. This is the '91 F250 with the E350 disc brake dually rear and ZF 6 speed. I have only driven it occasionally in the last year since I got the crew cab PSD. Ironically the PSD has more than twice the mileage on it, but with the...
My co-workers came up with the name for my diesel Ranger - Cricket. They claim that's what it sounds like... Doesn't exactly make it sound like a powerhouse, does it?
Jason
I just hit a nice big corn fed one in south western NY last week! Actually, it hit me. Jumped at the side of the truck and hit around the b-piller area, bed, dually tire... Was amazingly lucky - didn't even scratch the paint let alone dent anything. Did leave a bloody smear down the side of...
