E4OD Shenanigans

Yep, pulley on left came on the reman alternator. Pulley on right on old alternator. Note wider groove, that fits belt properly.- idi_econoline

Well, heck, that was shockingly easy. After all the pulleys I've worked with over the years, this was the easiest one! I expected an interference fit needing a puller, keyway, and the usual stuff. Installing 7.3 IDI into E350 Cutaway van: Tough Clearance Issues
Sorry, gents; been distracted with another vehicle.... missed y'all, really! Chain MUST be as short and straight-across as possible. My van has dealt well with the 1-hour trip to that vehicle, until the alt light has been showing up lately. OK, cheap alternator.... my bad. Installed a Delco reman from Rock Auto today. Uh, guess I'm still the confused one... Though I think what I'm reading from you, Calvin, is that the shaft of the puller would damage the inner bore of the pulley? Well, this puller fits VERY loosely through the pulley bore.... no sign of damage. But, you're saying there may be damage...- idi_econoline

Whoa, I see some misunderstanding here, Calvin. NO WAY I'd be grinding on the pulley itself.... :eek: Instead, I ground down the jaw-halves of the tool. Worked just fine! Aw, Gary.... respectfully.....I know I may seem like a newbie, but...... :dunno No worries. Will break in the new bench grinder tomorrow. Need to chamfer off the lower back edge of these halves, and I should be in business. And, using the install tool to press the pulley onto the new pump. ;Sweet- idi_econoline

A nearby member of this board told me he'd used the "OEM" brand tool, but it needs to be ground down to fit the jaws down into the seriously recessed pulley. Will be grinding away in the next few days; will report back.- idi_econoline

Don't look at me, Brian..... first time I put my E4OD back in, didn't have the converter fully seated. Crunched the pump gear, bent the converter hub out-of-round....... all that with a zero-mile trans and converter!!!!!! Sheesh. :frustrate- idi_econoline

Anybody tried DIESEL HPR in their IDI?
On my second tank of HPR at the moment. And having occasional surging and power loss, which may not be related...... Just changed the fuel filter, and the contents were nice and clear. Only difference this time is that I added Stanadyne Lubricity formula on this second tank. Runs...- idi_econoline
