Is this just a valve cover leak, or external head gasket leak too?

Heya fellas. I've got an oily patch on my passenger-side inner fender that's been gradually getting worse. There's oil up on the AC drier, all along the underside of the heater hose that comes out of the block, and sprayed out on the fender insulation. There are no oil spots under the truck; the...

    V Belts replacement

The first one I lost was a Gates belt, it was about a year old with 5k miles on it, it was showing cracks but I thought it was fine since it was relatively fresh. The next belt was a generic ~$7 cheapy, that one lasted 6 months with <2k miles. Went back to Gates, it's a little over a year old...

    V Belts replacement

I've lost my alternator belt twice, both times it was merciful enough to leave the other belts alone. Now I change my belts every 8-12 months whether they need it or not LOL

Replace nylon lines on return lines 93 7.3 na

I don't know how well it plays with biodiesel, but the return line from the IP (the one in your pic) and the one from the fuel filter can be replaced with clear line. It's handy to have, if you have air in your system you'll be able to see it. For the rest of the return lines, get the return kit...

    ONLY use FORD throttle cables!!

Can you still get the OEM cable through the dealership? Mine is still good AFAIK, but it wouldn't hurt to have a spare cable in my toolbox just in case.

    Truck engine dies on de-Acceleration

Something is probably sticking in your injection pump. I've heard of people with this problem solving it using the "ATF trick". Fill a clean fuel filter with ATF and install it, start the truck and let it run until it starts to run rough and then shut it down. Let it sit 24 hours, then fire it...

    V Belts replacement

It's pretty easy to do. The vacuum pump you don't have to do anything with, its belt will come off when you loosen the alternator bolts. The power steering pump and alternator each have one bolt that serves as a hinge and a second that lets you adjust the tension. I forget if the AC has 2 or 3...

    Better acceleration cold than warm!

Is the solenoid / switch / "thingy" that raises the idle RPM also the mechanism for advancing the pumps timing when cold? Or are they two separate components that are controlled by the same temperature switch? Like I said before, my engine sound will change with the advance plugged in (and it'll...

    Better acceleration cold than warm!

The advance can still work even if the high idle doesn't work. My high idle doesn't work, but the engine sound changes noticeably when you plug in / unplug the connector. It makes an absolutely awful racket at and above 1500rpm, so I leave mine disconnected.

    Time for new front springs?

Those springs are toast, they look like my old springs. I'll post pictures below, but my springs had about 3/4 of an inch of space before hitting the bumpstops, and the ride was awful. Part of my problem was some satanic jerk put polyurethane bushings in the leaf springs at some point in the...

    Best headlight upgrade I've made

The relay mod works the same for the 92-97 trucks as it does the older ones. Makes the lights a bit brighter, and it keeps your headlight switch from starting a fire :D I need to get my relay kit going again, the terminal going to the battery corroded and fell off and I've been too lazy to fix...

    Belts and water pump

The fan is attached to the water pump, and I don't think you can get the water pump bolts off without the fan blocking them. When I did my pump, I used gray RTV on the top 2 and bottom 2 bolts, I used the gasket it came with and put Aviation Form-A-Gasket on both sides of the included gasket.

Love my truck but really want/need 4x4

I just got rid of my D50 TTB setup. If you have one that's in good shape they're fine axles, but when they get worn they like to destroy tires (mine killed 4 in 20k miles). It's also damn near impossible to find a shop that'll touch that mess, much less do it correctly. And if you have a D50...

New Owner Learning Curve, Strange Sound

Can you record a video and upload it to youtube so we can hear the noise? These IDI's have a ton of knocking sounds, most of them are normal but to a new guy it might sound like a rod is trying to escape.

Dana 60 is in! I was originally kinda dreading the rise in height from the D60 swap, I liked the truck just fine at regular F250 height... but holy #!^< it looks GOOD with the extra height. I was not expecting it to look half this good :D

Those balljoints are toast. The pivot bushings and leaf springs are probably cooked too. How many miles are on the truck?

Tach not working at low RPM?

Is your truck an automatic? If the tach stops working the transmission will start acting funky, but if it's a ZF-5 it shouldn't care at all. As for the problem, it sounds like it's the tach sensor. It's that big sensor right next to the oil fill cap on the timing gear cover. Check and see if...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Nice, I like it! I bought one of those pods a year ago, but I ran in to issues trying to install it so I put it back on the shelf for a later day. I was planning on just drilling a few holes, but that slot looks like it's much easier to work with.

Essay on People with (IDI'S) in Thier Late Teens Early 20s

Arizona requires smog checks on these old diesels. Strange to me that Cali doesn't smog old diesels but Arizona does, but there's more than a few things wrong with both those states so 'eh, what can ya do? I'm moving out there soon and I gotta turn my fuel screw down before I do, it smokes like...

Put some new meats on it today. 265/75/16 BFG's, I need to trim the chin spoiler a little bit but otherwise there's no rubbing :D (other than the new self-machining wheel weights, if my local tire guy can't fix that then I'll just let nature take its course) Next goal: Get the D60 put in before...

What tools/spares should I bring for a cross country trip in a new to me truck?

One thing I forgot, do you have spare retainers / clamps for your injector lines? If you get there and notice any missing on the truck, you can fix that before it becomes a disaster.

    Strange glow plugs

Motorcraft and Beru are the same thing, so you're safe there. I don't know much about engine rebuilding so I can't comment much there, but iirc once the heads are off you should be able to put an upgraded camshaft in if you wanted, throw studs in there too and you'll have the perfect foundation...

What tools/spares should I bring for a cross country trip in a new to me truck?

I always keep one of those 100+ piece blow-mold tool sets behind my seat, along with a pry bar and breaker bar for changing belts (I have V-belts, if you're serpentine you probably won't need the pry bar), that should cover you for just about every parking lot repair you might need to make...

Just going in order: 1: Each of those engines has their own pro's and con's. My truck is NA and I like it because you can get to all 8 injectors and glowplugs with ease, but I wouldn't say no to a turbo IDI. The Powerstroke is an entirely different animal and I wouldn't say no to one of those...

    Noisy alternator

No squeal today, but the chirp was still there and on the freeway the chirping got VERY loud. I put a new alternator on it today and all is well now, no more chirping or other noises. I can't believe how easy that was to do, I've never changed an alternator and it only took me an hour to do...
