Jon, you really should get a piston and rod from a Cummins and an IDI or Stroke and do a comparo picture while you have those out!!
Hard to do justice to just how massive they are. When I pulled the oilpan on mine I was amazed.
Not sure its that exact kit, but it is a Frozen Boost set-up. Worked well on the old dually and it will soon be on my '57. Very good quality stuff.
That coat hanger downpipe was a fix on the side of the road in an emergency job!! Never could get the damn ring to seat well enough to take more...
Time...
Motor and transmission are in storage until I have some time in my schedule. Trying to talk myself into (or out of - depending on the day) putting this drive train in a 50's vintage IH COE that is for sale near me.
No wastegate on this old turbo. That wire was to help hold the exhaust elbow on until I found a new ring-clip for it.
You should be OK, but I would stud it when you get the chance.
Yes, I would measure and get the largest radiator you can fit if you are planning to tow anything over 12K lbs. Anything under 12K and the radiator I have is fine.
Rereading that I can see why people take the heat soak as a major bummer, but it was really only a minor thing that I spent too...
It was an observation on a 100+ day, (pulling a large toy-hauler up a long canyon with AC on) that has turned into a reason not to, when in fact 99% of the time there is no heat soak issues whatsoever. I now believe an air-to-air would have had similar results. The water intercooler really...
Some gearing calcs
I built this spreadsheet to figure out gearing and look at my options with this transmission. Just for fun I ran your tire size and gearing (4.56) at 2000 rpm. I highlighted the line that you would be running in green. The rest is for adding a brownie over/under. With no...
The kit is fairly straight-forward install. The transmission manual is on Roadranger's website and has a very good set of instructions. Be sure to loosen the output nut (HUGE socket) before you pull the trans. The rest is just a lot of drifts and clips.
Grigg on 4BT has it all well...
That is my truck in the tech section and it does work awesome. Somehow my ONE slightly negative comment became the focus of many who read it. I was pulling a 25+ mile long canyon on a 100 F day with my A/C on and a 5'er that scales 14K full, so I did see a little heat soak that day. Never...
After having spent the time and money on both... if you're not towing I can't see the value. If I were to do it all again; just go with an inexpensive water/meth system and keep the meth under 15%.
Very nice work! I am jealous of your garage Jon with all that cool IH stuff on the walls.
Your picture reminded me of this thread I have been reading on rust removal: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/ospho-solution-rust-removal-175465.html
Things were put on hold for a bit, but there are plans in motion to get this drivetrain mounted and rolling in the next little while.
Will try to get some shots of the mounts when I can. It may be a few weeks. Lots of young people passing away in and near our family this last month. Puts...
Seems like hanging a CP3 on adapting a common rail would be easier. Just thinking out loud here. Could possibly use a dmax ECM and reprogram it with EFI Live. Injectors that fit might be impossible to find, but who knows????
Would definitely get the fuel volume up beyond anything currently...
They are on here somewhere; its a total project and is still ongoing...

Last I heard Isuzudieselswapper guy was on the road and didn't have time for his side business anymore. These guys are actively making and selling Isuzu adapters:

Call him and ask him if he has what you are looking for. I talked to him about a 6BDT to ZF-5...
