So I have an 085 sitting in a box I was thinking of putting on the 86. But I would sell or trade it if convinced there is a very clear advantage to another set up. It was free and I know for a fact the turbo was rebuilt not that many miles ago.
Well I’m going to test that theory in reverse I guess.... my 7.3 Powerstroke used to get 16-19 mpg. The new engine going in was broken in on the dyno and pulled a smoke free 460 hp and 1,000 ft lbs, pretty much matching a new 6.7. Once we get used to it and settle down we will see if we can hit...
When that first came up a few years back I went through stock from every brake shoe mfg and found only the ones I had removed from my truck were made correctly. Economics has made it cheaper to buy new steel than collect, transport clean and reuse the cores. Appearently there is one mfg making...
YES! I have done that on the 91 and 96, on the 96 I built a bracket to lower the frame mounting bracket so both cables above and below the spring hangar make more sense. I insist on the parking brake sliding the tires at 15 mph since I off road and live in the hills, not to mention the backup in...
I have to politely disagree on the ball missing not causing it to run cold. My 86 6.9 bugged me for a while until I found the ball missing. Using IR temp gun to verify temps. It came up to temp nicely after putting in a new ball and fabbing a new retainer.
It has been done. It is nearly one of those of you have to ask don’t try it type of project. A person confident on vehicle electronics, electrical, able to read diagrams and decide what to keep, what to eliminate and how to overlay the two electrical systems is what it takes.
It takes only a tiny amount of flow to prevent coming up to temp on these engines. This is one reason it is critical to use the Motorcraft thermostat, it seals tight when closed. Since we established you have a new proper thermostat and the fan clutch is not on it leaves a few choices. Something...
There was once a kit from IH or Ford to do this although it may have been for the early 7.3 Powerstroke. The concept and function was the same. If one wanted to get sophisticated with it an adjustable electric fan switch controller could be used. Or a Horton fixed temp fan control switch from a...
Depends on your climate. And future travel plans. Your signature doesn’t give your location. I have never needed a fuel heater, even at 8,000 feet. But I pre dosed with Power Service before I went up there....
You came to the right place. thewespaul will be along or pm him. Seems like an S257 or similar has been done. R&D and typ4 are further places to go look.
Flames are on the other ends of the state from us but power is off for 24 hrs now......can’t begin to describe the depth of political and environmentalist bull xxxx that it took to get is here.
The added part at the valve cover could be a great idea because on the Hypermax set up I believe there is no baffle in the valve cover where the breather was retrofitted. So oil mist from the rockers can go out with the blow by. That little can inserted in the valve cover would help separate the...
Other than catching up maintenance on a new to you truck is there a reason you are thinking about replacing these items? The CDR valve gets blamed for a lot of things it cannot do. As for the added part it could actually be a great idea....
Preload applies less when trans is in 4th.... power glows straight through...countershaft and gears not loaded. Is it different in 4th? Unless mainshaft bearings are trash most bearing type noises go away cruising in 4th.
My transfer case shifter lever does that above 2500 rpm due to pinion angle is off. Can you feel it in the shifter or transfer case shifter? Any chance you got the driveline out of phase on reassemble?
Looking at both my 91 and 96 right now it is hard to tell if the mount is an issue. Are the bore sizes the same? I do know there is a difference in the pushrod because the trick I used to convert to a Heim joint on the 91 wouldn’t work on the 96 due to smaller diameter pushrod. Made a different...
Metal slave is made by Perfection the clutch company. I was researching one for my OBS PSD. Didn’t check brick, has new already. Rock Auto read the info tab on each. The metal set is what your rock auto link goes to. Sitting here in the dark in good ole Calif.
