Replaced my injectors. One of them is shooting a geyser of fuel out of where the injector line connects to the injector, primarily above the screw cap. I tried pulling the line back off. It appears to be on straight, not cross threaded or anything, and the cap is good and tight.
Any thoughts...
Not a bad idea. Been thinking over it. Plumb existing fuel feed line from rear tank to a pump. But how to get it into the Front tank? Pull the pickup and drill a hole in the top of the pickup to run a line through?
Here it is with new leaf springs and shocks. Getting new tires on Saturday 265/75/16 on AR 16x7 alloy wheels.
Quite a drastic difference with the new springs/leafs/bushings! Rides great now.
Here is my '89 F250 that I picked up last Friday. Its a 4x4 XL with 7.3 IDI, first gen banks turbo, ZF5 transmission.
It was a plow truck for awhile and was pretty dirty when I got it.
Plans include in somewhat particular order:
Fix sagging front leaf springs, replace shackles, bushings...
Yep that would likely be my problem. I already suspect the selector valve. The previous owner told me the rear tank return leaks "from the back of the engine" when the rear tank is selected, like it gets pressurized and then leaks. I haven't had a chance to look into it.
I did look into the...
So yet another fuel leak has come to my attention.
I had the truck in a shop here for some new front leaf springs, shocks, tie rod ends and an alignment.
The mechanic pointed out a fuel leak on the frame rail, right around the transfer case. I’m guessing it’s a return line as I have no...
Thanks for all the tips. This should be easy to troubleshoot.
Tstat is good, warms up quickly and maintains a constant temp. Previous owner replaced it.
I get 18.5 highway with the truck in my signature. I'm fairly certain of that number because the fuel sender is broken and only one tank works. I drove 7 hours on the interstate after buying it, filling up the front tank every 150 miles. Stock tire size so the speedo and odo should be accurate...
Heater hose routing is correct (I am familiar with the bypass) and no shut off in any of the lines. Next time I think about it i'll grab the hoses and make sure they are getting good and hot.
Coolant sits about 1.5" down from the top of the radiator when cold. It might could use a bit more...
Yep I found some pics online of the heater control unit and it is definitely cable operated. Suppose my first job is to crawl under the dash and locate the cable.
Will do. Looks like that has already been done (cut back and nylon hose added).
Don't have the truck right now its in the shop getting the front leafs, shackles and front end parts replaced + alignment. But i'll check on that this weekend. Now that you mention it the temp door does feel like it...
My new to me '89 F250 has some issues with the heat/AC. The AC compressor clutch/bearing is blown but that is an issue for another day. With fall upon us I decided it may be time to get some heat working.
The vacuum lines in the engine compartment look okay and the brakes work fine. The vents...
I doubt it would be much of an upgrade over your stock turbo but I could be wrong. From what I understand its a very low boost non-wastegate unit. Gives a pretty significant upgrade over stock but its not a real big turbo as its designed to be used with the stock engine / injectors / fuel pump.
Thanks. I did not think about chopping the original Banks intake up... not a bad idea! Might look a little funny but I won't have to search for an expensive compatible hat from hypermax or whatever.
What did you do with the CDR?
One thing I noted when reading Mel’s article on IP replacement. The article specifies that the pump drive flange is held on with three 16 point 5/16” bolts.
Does he mean 12 point bolts?
Thanks. I pulled my old style banks hat off (what a PITA). Took another look at everything. No injector leaks visible.. or return lines. Some oil leaking from the banks system (from the CDR) so it was hard to get a look at everything. But it sure looks like there is a leak from the IP somewhere...
Looks like I may be in for an Injection Pump.
I fixed the injector leak. New o-rings. All of the injectors are dry as a bone now. No leaks I can see on any of the lines all the way up from the block mounted fuel pump, any of the return lines etc... But it still has awful air intrusion... will...
I have an ‘89 F250 reg cab. Any idea which years of the 40-20-40 bolt in and have a headrest? Most of the threads I see folks are bolting stuff into a crew cab.
Couldn’t find a manual for the old style Banks. Filter minder would make sense. What replacement filter should I get? Haven’t opened it up yet.
So when cold, that little brass thing opens up the throttle with the ignition on correct? I know you have to push the throttle in for it to work. I’ll...
More questions
On the Banks air filter housing, what is supposed to go in this empty hole? Smoke coming out of it after I run the truck.
Also, my throttle sits like this... I think I remember on my 6.9 it would rest on the little brass thing. This is hot, after driving around town awhile. I...
