    Diagnosis hell pls help

I recall changing a sensor up front on the engine when I lost my speedo..can’t recall what it was. Cam gear sensor maybe? It was a black top with large flats for a wrench. Two wires coming out of the back.

    Revive old batteries?

I haven’t checked yet..they sat unused from March till a week or two ago. But I also have some left over duralasts from a previous 7.3..maybe those can be brought back to life?

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I took the truck for a ride today..just a few miles. Ran fine and shifted ok..I whipped the stick off and tested in park...came out covered again...so I’m assuming it’s full. Now I had my mechanic friend came over today he helped me set the motor with his service truck a while back and first...

    Revive old batteries?

So I know this isn’t IDI specific but I’m not sure this post will get a response else where on the site? I went to start up the truck to get my hood put back on. My traveling diesel mechanic friend thinks it’s got a leaking injector..just a gray/white smoke once heat up and a slight knock...

    Idi vs super duty

And this is why a 12v is so popular

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I added maybe a pint or so before starting in the beginning...a small Lucas bottle with the bottom cut off. Should I check the level with the truck turned off? Or does it need to be in neutral first?

    Idi vs super duty

If I switch mirrors I’ll go with something that was oem. I see loosing the vent windows or changing much as a big loss in investment..that even comes with swapping motors..I’d like to just stick oem at the end of the day even though my mind wanders. I’ll look into ISL 850..never looked at it...

    Idi vs super duty

You know thinking about it..I only drive maybe 6-9k miles a year...I can probably daily drive the truck but again winter time and it’s really not as nice a ride as the 2500 sprinter..the frost heaves and granite boulders pushing out of the roads really suck when you don’t have a load.

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I put the truck in neutral and spun the flexplate around while I tightened the nuts..I used the freshly righted nuts to spin the whole unit enough to grab on the next one. So the closed end of a wrench being pulled down towards the passengers side. I didn’t hear anything during that..but maybe...

    Idi vs super duty

I would certainly enjoy a 12v p-pump swap at some point..the idit is hard to get.

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

so was that gap between the plate and TC normal?

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I’m pretty sure I pushed the TC back on when the engine was out. Once it was back in, there was about 3/16 space between the TC and the flexplate..the bolts in the mounts were lined up on the motor mounts..and I haven’t done that trans fluid test/check procedure

    Idi vs super duty

I’ve got two batteries now and the 35’s aren’t cheap. I wish the truck was stock hight with a leveling kit but whatever it came with a suspension kit. The truck was my daily driver for a while. Then I bought a diesel sprinter. It’s not comfortable, 28mpg, holds all my tools, quiet and it’s still...

    Vacuum pump pulley removal

Can you flip the tool around and use other angles on the jaws? I have a flat belt so im not totally familiar with the pulley.

    Idi vs super duty

You guys are probably right..I do like the simplicity of this truck..I may have found someone with a few spare running motors. Mostly out of e350s..maybe I could get my truck running good enough and swap my turbo and change pump and injectors while it’s out. I’m not totally set but I’ve had...

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I believe I read that you can wipe the dipstick with a blue shop towel and then stick it back in..then pull it and use the rag to go down the plastic end..it’ll absorb once it reaches fluid?

First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

So I’m going to get ready and swap my injection pump and lines to this motor. And then I’ll get it timed. In the mean time I’ve noticed a slight “low fluid vane pump” sorta noise coming from around the torque converter..it’s stead and kinda faint really. But it reminds me of a cold power...

    Idi vs super duty

I like the truck it’s self..cool looking, unique, side vent windows are awesome and this one is very rust free. I guess I really miss things like tow mirrors..these little dinky ones suck, the drivers position isn’t the best and the idi is just fine but like I said before..the motor it’s self...

    Idi vs super duty

Hey just a few thoughts I’ve been pondering. I’m about to have my 94 all buttoned up after a few more days tinkering. I have owned many 2000+ 7.3 powerstrokes over the years and I wanted to try out the simple mechanical engine in the idi. I’ve noticed I could my pick of dozens of 7.3...

New injectors and pump. Exhaust smoking.

Did you ever tune out this gray smoke issue? As you probably seen in my other posts I’m getting ready to get into my fuel system..just curious is all.

    Injection pump option

just read through the fuel servicing article. I love reading stuff like that! So I have a factory turbo and I’m wondering can I just pull the pump with all the lines off at once? If so that’s what I’m going to do..I’ll just swap the whole shebang at once..I hope I can do that it’d certainly be...

    Injection pump option

Are all of the timing marks on the pump it’s self the same? Meaning the timing line on one pump vs another? So this all makes sense. I’ll read up tonight. Anyone have ideas on time to complete this project?
