    That was a great story! Like the stuff of James Patterson, exciting and to the point, it was almost like I was there. Of course, without the venomous vipers and voracious vermin vacillating in the vermiculite while being doused with vehicular vittles. I'm ready for the next chapter. Do it again.

    I changed out the heater core and put two valves in place so that I could shut off the coolant to the core when it's summer, like @BlindAmbition suggested. The existing core was a spectra brand, same model number as I put in. It looked in decent shape so I'll keep it for a spare, just in case.

    I kept my column lock; I like that feature. That sounds like a good safety feature in case of a runaway engine. There's been talk of a block off plate before. How did you manage this cable- kill?

    I saved that link last night and once I finish removing the rest of the dash to get better access, I'll be putting on a replacement hinge. I also plan to remove the necklace, spent shell casings and other debris that found its way into the duct work.

    This picture is looking from the engine compartment through the open evaporator core housing. You can see the lever connected to that gray door; I'm thinking that should have some type of hinge connected to it. Right?

    I believe this is the door you're talking about. It works from the temp lever you mentioned. I'll try to get a picture of the other door. I had to take two pictures since I'm not certain how to change my phone camera settings to get a video to upload to the site. It won't take mp4.
