    IP gear housing leak

I was going to say the exact same thing. Use a large rubber band or large zip tie around the IP and allen to ensure your allen wrench doesn't slide out if you tip your housing+IP assembly. Also, check your gearhousing cover for cracks. They are not made of strong materials, and I've seen...

Which Rear Axle Ratio? (31ft MH, 7.3idi turbo, Allison 1000)

3.5 will be fine. Remember, the hypermax down-pipe is the bottle neck in their design. If you go more than 3.5, i seriously doubt it would amount to any noticeable EGT reduction. Definitely get rid of the stock pipes. when I had the stock muffler and pipes, my EGT's were 200 deg hotter than...

Which Rear Axle Ratio? (31ft MH, 7.3idi turbo, Allison 1000)

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Lots going on in this conversation. For the most part, I pretty much agree with everyone, especially Wes's comments. With that huge rig, there is no way you can get both "keep up with traffic" and "get good fuel economy." Aim for one. You can't get...

    In case of EMP

I have a gravity filtration setup. I have a 12v electric pump for pouring into storage cubes, but I also have a hand-crank backup. I used the hand crank for the first few years. Wasn't the worst, really.

    In case of EMP

I got started doing this stuff in 2006 and 2007 with my buddy. We did the crap-ass dana linscott style with rubber hoses and copper heat exchangers. Everything pretty much failed on our first project car. But we learned a lot, and back when the Frybrid forum was still the best place for WVO...

    In case of EMP

I haven't had problems with old WVO. When I filter and dewater my grease, I store them in individual clean cubes, and bubble argon into the top of the cube. Then I cap it. It removes most of the oxygen in the cube, and what little oxygen is left is more buoyant than the argon which lies on...

    In case of EMP

That's all well and good for about 250 miles. Then you are out of diesel fuel and just have a 3-ton paper weight. I've been running on my stockpile of filtered WVO for a decade now.

Buying 85 IDI ATS turbo motorhome!

I took that stock air hose out when I put in my turbo. I'm hoping to use that space in the future to make a custom air filter box or conduit for intercooler... idk. just dreaming

Buying 85 IDI ATS turbo motorhome!

I was also considering moving my passenger side battery to the frame, so that I could use that space to put a air filter box, and run my inner cooler tubing under that to the grill area. I gotta move my air filter off the top of the engine, there is just no room in these vans to access the...

Buying 85 IDI ATS turbo motorhome!

I had a plan to run cold air intake under the passenger side battery tray, but now I think I'll reserve that space to run innercooler plumbing to the grill area.

    Cavitation issue?

^^^^^^^^ yep. It's really easy to cut the o-rings or mate the headers in a way that the gasket won't seal up tight. I would definitely pull the oil cooler and do that again, before jumping to pressure testing the engine block. Also, while you got the oil cooler off, check to make sure your...

Heater box flap location on vans?

Your comment reminded me of this meme I posted to Facebook, and I got a few family members that said I shouldn't post this stuff cuz someone might believe it. LOL. If someone believes this and get electrocuted, then I call that natural selection.

HOW TO-DIY coolant plugs to petcocks

That's what I used to think. How often does someone actually drain their coolant from the block..... head gasket jobs, engine pulls, and various other projects over the past five years, and I'm super glad I went with the petcocks. connect a drain hose and flip a valve. easy peasy. Related...

    Tranny fluid in diesel

I've heard of guys doing the tranny thing in their tanks. If I have a stuck injector or malfunctioning IP, then I do the ATF-fuel-filter thing. But ideally, something like @Golden Helmet's suggestion with the Stanadyne or Diesel Kleen is better, cuz also, it helps prevent jelling in the lines.

Heater box flap location on vans?

Looking at that wiring is disconcerting. If you tried jumping the low pressure AC switch and it didn't work, I'd bet you have many gremlins in addition to the blower motor. I'd argue that if it was the resistor, you'd still get either "high" speed or the other speeds (the resistor failing...

6.9 Diesel starts and will only runs for a seconds, billows white smoke.

I would expect blacker smoke if there was a return restriction, but anything can happen with these beasts.

Heater box flap location on vans?

If the PO didn't maintain that AC system, I'd say you have a 1 in a 100 shot that putting in a can will work. Even if they did maintain the AC, it should be holding pressure now, and since it isn't, I'd say you have a 1 in 20 shot putting a can will work.

Heater box flap location on vans?

hmmmm.. Before you start pumping this full of R134a gas, you should figure out if you have a leak. If your clutch is not engaging, it could be mainly from 2 things: no power to the clutch or no pressure in the system. There is a pressure switch on the dryer that closes the circuit...

Heater box flap location on vans?

I have the same rear circuit shut off valve as well, it's up by the underside of the engine ceiling on the supply-side of the rear heater core hose. When I did my turbo install, I removed the thing, because it didn't work anymore and I had to replace my hoses to the back: Link...

Heater box flap location on vans?

On my 1988, even with a functioning air vent valve system, the heater core is such a hot element, that it wasn't letting my evaporator work well. So I put in a simple valve system on my heater core lines so that I could just shut off my heater core flow in the Summer. Then in October, I just...

    Can't adjust c6 shift points?

I deleted my kickdown linkage ages ago. It shouldn't impact shifting unless you are pulling up a hill. Can you post a picture of this? Are you talking about the VRV castle nut or what? I'd be very careful adjusting anything on these VRV's, because stretching them too far can lead to...

    Can't adjust c6 shift points?

Put a vac gauge on your hub and make sure your vac pump is working well. I installed a cheapo boost/vac gauge on my dash so that I could keep track of my vac pressure as I drive. It's nice to have just in case my vac pump goes out on the road. Are you sure the top vac hose is connecting to...

    Can't adjust c6 shift points?

That's a sign of a worn VRV. Either the cam link is worn, cam is worn, the spring is stretched, the carriage spring is warped, or worse, the diaphragm is starting to fail. All of those would lead to variable vac pressures from the Ford spec, and that would alter the shift points. It might...

    Can't adjust c6 shift points?

If you did all that vac stuff, then unfortunately it kind of narrows it to the VRV. But change out your 1/4 vac hose first just to make sure.
