    Battery jumper packs?

Definitely two jumpers FTW on these beasts, but one good one would prolly work. I keep meaning to try mine (Imazing Portable Car Jump Starter - 2500A Peak, now only sold through Costco.com), though I'm not holding my breath. We have one for each car, but I keep cables in the F250. And being a...

Fuel doesn't stay waiting at the injectors?

Rather than a drainback issue, I'd suspect that the injectors are dripping down when the truck is off. Meaning they don't seal perfectly and the fuel leaks into the cylinder over night and whatnot. So cranking it over a couple seconds re-primes the lines of the tiny amount of fuel they lost and...

That beats the heck out of buying a whole new set! Glad to hear it.

    New R&D injectors

I agree, that was my basic motivation. Just a simple pop-test, no removing injectors. I liked those results, too. As for spray pattern... its not super important for splash ignition. The only key factor is you can't see if the injector drips just under pop pressure. But I wouldn't replace a set...

    6.5 fass on an idi?

Oh ok now I gotcha. The internals for the filter head looked really nifty-- built in bleed and return.

One injector set left on website R&D IDI (stage 1)

Oh wow he moved out to Wyoming? He was about 35 minutes from me. Met him once, bought a CHRA. Indeed very nice. Even though he said I may have had to sloppiest CHRA he'd ever felt, lol! It was bad

Dumb things you have done truck wise!

Great day to have a loader! The lesson is if you are gonna ditch your truck...do it across the street. :rotflmao

    Self regulating glow plugs

I have a theory that the ZD9's that are burning out so fast are all knock-offs. But they are so good these days that most people never know, so the BERU gets a bad rap. Until I saw some YouTube videos of what's fake and what's not, I thought I'd be able to tell. I was wrong! I think the best bet...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Dude...what kind of baby-making are you trying to encourage over there!? :rotflmao It'll either be a skid-250 that can't drive highway speeds, or a 250der that's the fastest skid in the East! And even has side-view mirrors and a cupholder!

    New steering gear stiff?

That's a crazy amount of shop time I feel...but I agree if it was going to be a 10 hour job in 24 degree weather, no thankyou! I'd never done one before and it wasn't fun, but I think I got her done in about 3 hours. That was a long time ago! But on the plus side I've never had to adjust it...

    New steering gear stiff?

For once I have direct application help! I have a Redhead steering box, purchased before the Bluehead split. I've also heard rumors that Bluehead is the better outfit these days, FWIW. Redhead is in Seattle so I was able to get one in person. I had the same problem, it was a little tight. I...

    6.5 fass on an idi?

The DB2 is not self-regulating, if you feed it too much PSI it is forced to accept it and that changes the timing. Just FYI. I've actually heard of quite a few people running Holley Red unregulated and liking it. Seems like it's not too much for the return system but I see what you're saying.

I ended up buying a piston-only chinesium porta-power and adapted an old injector hardline to screw into the end of it's flex line. I popped with hydraulic fluid, AFAIK. Since that's what it's designed for and a diesel can run on it just fine... I remember deliberating about it quite a bit and...

    6.5 fass on an idi?

It's certainly easier but does not come with lines. Heck of a pump and FASS is a good brand for sure. I'm curious how they get 100gph out of that thing when the filters are rated at 25gph. But whatevs, seems to be legit. We need 30+gph at WOT on a stock pump maxed out. So it's definitely up to...

I do. That IP will burn your hand when it's getting cooled actively, I can't imagine how hot it would get if the majority of the fuel going through it is just looping. Now maybe it doesn't cause any issues at all-- but I thought I'd throw it out there.

    1989 7.3 IDI - hard starting & hitting a brick wall

For sure! You've done a lot of work and it's always great to reap the benefits! I can't remember having any fuse link, but if I did I would have cut it out because the old fuse link in other areas of my wiring has failed me before. So I went with a mega fuse I can see and replace at any parts...

That's crazy. Never heard of that before, though it's possible. I'd call R&D and see what they say, maybe they send you 2 good ones? They are a good outfit, shouldn't have quality control issues. That said, if you want to switch it up, @typ4 Russ Repair Injectors has injectors and he...

Hey, it's another air intrusion thread! Just for fun though.

Why would it suck air if your lift pump died? Should have zero pressure, not suck air, no? I've had my system drawing air when I had WMO and diesel in cold weather(no RUG). About tore my hair out until I realized it was drawing air from the seals around the fittings at the tank. I never replaced...

    1989 7.3 IDI - hard starting & hitting a brick wall

That's a cool update for you, 4-5 seconds stone cold is not bad at all. Awesome! I just went out and checked my setup, but I don't have the wire gauge labeled on the wire that I can see. I have a 250 mega fuse off battery, then (I think) it's 6ga from battery to White Rogers relay(18") Then...

    1989 7.3 IDI - hard starting & hitting a brick wall

Thank you for such a well-written explanation of what's going on and what you've tried! That helps us a lot, and will help you later on to remember what all you've done. Nice work! It's been a while since I had a stock 7.3 GP system. I switched over to a manual push-button and never went back...

Looping the fuel like that will heat it up as it's supposed to be cooling the IP. Same problem as before but without the leaks. Hot fuel flows great but affects timing and maximum fuel delivery. Wes did some tests on it a while back here on OBN. He was gonna sell a fuel cooler for performance...
