    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Decided if i'm going to add a factory turbo to the 7.3 i'm going to make some improvements if easy. Decided to cut the turbo wastegate flange turn down off and weld on a 3" V-band. Also ordered up a full turboback exhaust for a powerstroke 7.3 (94-97) I'm going to adapt the 3" downpipe to the...

    7.3 idi compression test results

I agree, narrow down the easier stuff like @Nero said. CDR cleaning is routine maintenance in my opinion. I usually get some diesel fuel and slosh it around on the inside. Got a lot of black chunks out of it last time. Once it's clean test it by blowing through it. I forget what direction...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Update: I should have stated before but I did a compression test on this motor before I started tearing it down and I was getting roughly 390 - 430 PSI across all 8 cylinders. I was able to pull the oil pan off and do a visual inspection on the bottom end. Everything looks to be in great...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

I searched high and low to see if guys are opening up these 1/8" NPT NA motor oil adapters for the factory turbo setup but can't seem to find anything. Is this a none issue? I figured they made the oil feed on factory turbos 1/4" for a reason. Would this starve the turbo of oil?

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Hey guys! I've been on here for a little while now and I thought I should start a build thread. Don't get your hopes up it's nothing special by Oilburners standards but maybe you'd like to follow along to check out some of my trials and tribulations. Vehicle it will be going into: Willy Nelson...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

I think you just Nailed it! That would be considered O.E.M. sleeve since it's the Navistar kit.

    Rear Main Seal Questions

Thanks @Old Goat for that recon. That definitely looks like the Navistar seal from that mexico sight. Not sure how I feel about them writing on it and having it out of the box but that's an option if I want the same seal that came out. That Ford part looks to be a original replacement but...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

Something else I noticed is RockAuto says: SKF 38649 Info Rear; w/O.E.M. Ring What is O.E.M. Ring? Could this be the thicker ring maybe added to late model engines as a wear item? Mine is at least a 1992 and newer as it has the serpentine belt setup. I was trying to figure out the block...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

@IDIBRONCO Was your engine a former U-Haul truck as well? I'm trying to make a decision on what to do with whats available. Theres got to be a cross reference part number for the Navistar right? I just went outside to put the rear seal plate/seal back on and it slides right on no issues. Man...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

I feel like I just opened a can of worms. Just pulled mine and found out I have a repair sleeve installed already. Looks to be in decent shape to reuse (the Sleeve) and the seal itself wasn't leaking just the pan. I held the new seal I bought up to the Navistar seal and it seems way off to...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

The rear main seal kit I got from Rockauto came with a clear plastic sleeve for install. It has a slight taper.

    1994 7.3 IDI Swap out

I'm currently doing a similar overhaul with a known good engine. I just ordered oil cooler seals/block seals, rear main PTFE seal, water pump (comes with gasket), Lift pump, valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifolds (my passanger side is cracked all the way through) and exhaust gaskets. About...

Putting Oil Change into the Tank

Just curious how would any company that does IP's know for sure you ran WMO? Seems like it's a he said she said BS. Unless you killed the pump when running heavy on WMO and you couldn't get 100% of the WMO out before returning the core.

    Buying a spare engine?

In my neck of the woods my choices for used IDI engines was one for 800$ (complete all the way down to the exhaust, accessories, mech fan, motor mounts BUT it didn't run. Another was 400$ "worst deal" but it was overheated, blown head gasket, missing IP/hardlines, missing waterpump, and had...

    Road-side repair set

@SouthernIDI Normally I keep everything in two totes but now I have a service bed that I put stuff in. I bring all the above on my trips to CA for work. Most of the time i'm 5-10 minutes from home and have friends that can bring me whatever I need so I don't lug all of it around all the time.

    Road-side repair set

Definitely need TP for your ********. Seems like the older I get and the more coffee I drink no fart can be trusted anymore. I have a tote that I bring around but it has spare Vaccum pump (which I just had give out in the middle of the desert 300 miles from home) field repair jump box/jumper...

    New R&D injectors

Never thought about that one. That's a quick injector test if you've got the setup for it. I mean how important is looking at the spray pattern when it's popping exactly where/how it did before? Also, just wanted to say I just ordered a set of the stock injectors from R&D and will be...
