Help Troubleshooting - Lope / Surge at Start

I'd pop test the injectors. You might find one isn't sealing and drips. While you've got them removed, install new return lines, caps, o-rings, and olives. See russ @typ4 for purchasing russrepair.com

Is the mechanical fuel pump on the 6.9 capable of sucking through a dual filter setup?

Yeah, I'm almost positive that's the derale parallel filter unit you have pictured. If so, those filters paralleled like that is not what you want.

Is the mechanical fuel pump on the 6.9 capable of sucking through a dual filter setup?

Oh, and that filter head, is that the derale dual filter mount? That's used to run 2 filters parallel to one another. I don't think you can use that to run 2 filters in series, like you would with a primary filter/water separator and a secondary filter.

Is the mechanical fuel pump on the 6.9 capable of sucking through a dual filter setup?

That's a tall filter setup, where are you going to mount that? Can you run the 2 micron after the lift pump? It might take some extra line, but that's how I would do it. I run the bus through a 30 micron racor primary filter/water seperator, then through the stock mechanical lift pump, and then...

    Hydroboost Ghost

If they're saying send it back, I'm assuming they also feel the issue is on their end. Gears can be funky and tempermental, especially the valves inside of them. I'm wondering if something was pushed into it. You said you've put on a new booster, is this a completely new swap or something that...

    Hydroboost Ghost

Red heads are usually pretty good units. Very interesting that the gear gains operation after replacing the hydroboost, as apart from the fluid flowing through it, the two operate unrelated to one another. Do you lose brake assist after 30 seconds too? Or just steering? Be sure to pump the...

    Econoline battery group 65 "conversion"?

I agree, but I imagine they did what they had to do. It needed 2 batteries, 2 group 65's wouldn't fit, so they went with the largest that would. On the vans with the 1 battery frame mounted, a lot of van owners and mechanics don't know 2nd one is there. I had a COA van come in with a constant...

    Fuel filter results

I honestly would replace the whole line from the tank/fsv to the lift pump, and then frame/floor mount a racor filter/water separator in the new line. Nylon fuel line is cheap and pretty durable, and if you're already missing the factory water separator, that's one patch in the steel line that...

    Econoline battery group 65 "conversion"?

Batteries on the frame can be nice to free up space under the hood. But the only way I'd put a battery on the frame is if it was covered in a good box. The frame mounted batteries that I've worked on that weren't in a box were trashed thanks to corrosion.

    Econoline battery group 65 "conversion"?

According to the chart a group 45 might be close to fitting, and it's a little more available/cost friendly

    Econoline battery group 65 "conversion"?

Napa shows one on my end, PN 9150, 66 available. Hold onto your wallet though, as the price is . Can you swap a larger tray in, or don't you think there's enough room period?

    Fuel filter results

Bummer. I didn't look to see if they were still available, I just remember finding and reading about them. If it stalls while decelerating that'd typically be a sticking delivery valve, not a lift pump. I believe the atf has to sit in the injection pump overnight for it to have a shot at...

    Fuel filter results

I know a lot of people hate them, but the 2 piece filters with the clear bowl are nice for this reason. You'd have seen the water plain as day when you opened the hood.

    Fuel filter results

That is a bunch of water. Only time I see that much is if a person has gotten a bad fill up causing the truck to run rough. Did you change it for a reason or was it just time? How many months/miles were on it? Do you still have the filter vacuum light and is it operational? IMO, buy 2 filters...

    Rebuilt engine need help diagnosing

Bummer. I hear a definite thump, which could be a valve hitting the piston. Something is definitely off, so pull the covers and see if anything isn't right compared to the others. If you don't see anything, a compression test is what I would do next, as that might also reveal which cylinder is...

    More engine power "research"

I wondered where you were at with this. Being factory turbo'd, you're a leg up power wise on everybody that's NA. So there's that going for you. You can look into turbo upgrades, several options are available non-intercooled from multiple vendors. An intercooler will always be a benefit, but...

Fuel filter light comes up what could be the cause?

Could be the showerhead in the tank is falling apart. Could be fuel hose deteriorating. Could be the lift pump diaghragm or check valves heading south. Could be crap in the fuel from the last fill up. How much or little you look into this is your call, but the important thing to note is that...

Fuel filter light comes up what could be the cause?

Yeah if they're unobtanium I'm sure you could find something locally that would work better. Something comparable and common off a boat, tractor, or semi truck. But for me, the first step in solving this problem is replacing the filter, and then checking it for issues.

Aftermarket thermostat that I can mount above the factory one for ease of replacement?

A cheap IR temp gun will tell you all you need to know. Heck, touching the hoses with your hand can tell you well enough. After running for a while, if the hoses are all cold to the touch the thermostat is stuck open. If one hose is warm and the other is cold, the heater core is plugged, if...

Electric Vacuum pump vs Hydro-boost swap

Ford transits used an electric vacuum pump too. motorcraft #brpv34 Can check that out if you'd like. Used on the 3.7's. I think all 3.5's after 2012 use a mechanical cam driven vacuum pump.

Electric Vacuum pump vs Hydro-boost swap

We've only ever installed motorcraft vacuum pumps. Aftermarket ones never seemed to have near the longevity that an oe one did. Also, vacuum pump life is shortened a lot if you have leaks in the system. There shouldn't be any, and if you have some then that's working the pump harder then it has...

Centrifuges- oil pressure type vs motor driven

A fellow member made this comparison video. IMO the efficiency of a centrifuge is all about g force achieved and holding capacity. From what I've seen, most of your pressure operated fuges have lower g force numbers and holding capacities then a motor driven unit, so my guess is that they're...

    Marinized 7.3 IDIT

If it's cavitated in the cylinders it should be able to be repaired with sleeves. But that doesn't make the rest of the block suitable, so inspect it thoroughly before boring for the sleeves.

    Marinized 7.3 IDIT

Did those engines use a raw water cooling system? If so that'd be almost a guarantee for cavitation wouldn't it?
