    7.3L IDI Industrial Motor Mounts

No idea what the industrial units had. Navistar units had 2 pucks beneath a bracket below the balancer, then they had a v shaped mount off each side of the flywheel housing. Most of them had nothing on the trans, but if you ordered an mt6xx allison, it would have a rear transmission mount on...

Brainstorming a cab for this bus

With fab skills you could move it forward, but those chair lifts are heavy, so make sure you don't exceed the front axle/tire capacity. You could probably reuse the door without the lift if you wanted. I've seen some buses where they had 2 normal van doors up front, with a passenger seat like...

Brainstorming a cab for this bus

What's wrong with the current body to make it trash? Regardless, you're gonna need some sort of fabrication skills to pull this off. So either learn to weld or learn to graft fiberglass. I prefer welding, as steel is stronger then fiberglass and you'll likely be building a steel framed deck for...

    Tech-Time 3300 ??

In my experience, if the injector line isn't clean enough, your timing amount and rpm will jump around, not read a solid -20. If it's reading a solid -20, but has a good rpm number, you likely aren't close enough to the balancer. I've had to run a 5/16 drill bit down the hole on one to get the...

Sounds like a cool swap! You gonna keep us updated?

Quick tip for those who have bypassed their glow plug relay

My bus has the light illuminated off the same relay terminal that the plugs are on. If the plugs have power, the light should be on. No power, no light. I can't argue that a factory system can work good, when it's working. The controller on the bus is what originally failed. To "fix" it, all I...

So what did you do with your truck today?

That's my kind of logging, no offense to those that enjoy it, but cutting and splitting wood during the summer isn't my idea of fun. I helped gpa do that for a few years as that was the sole heat for the house. He had a heart attack and installed a propane furnace, and that was the end of it...

    6.9IDI Nightmare

If you love the truck, and don't want to get rid of it, then it's definitely not time to throw in the towel. It can be fixed. It's just going to take the right person, either you yourself or a shop to do it. As others have said, most shops won't work on your truck because of age and...

    EBAY TURBO BUILD

I thought about suggesting to machine the piston in your ring thread, but didn't know if there would be enough material between the land and the piston pin to get it done. Good score on the gasket set. What was missing out of it that they used? Looks like it's coming together!

Buying 85 IDI ATS turbo motorhome!

If your truck is sitting gathering rust, now is the time to sell it, as it's a sellers market at the moment and people are overpaying by a lot IMO. It honestly sounds like you're over owning the truck anyways, so get rid of it while it's worth something.

    Eaton Transmission-7.3idi

Any of your 10 speeds will more then handle an idi. Your most common 10 speeds are twin shaft units and are rated for at least 1000 ft lbs, so an idi will be fine. There are 10 speeds out there that are "light duty" in the 6-800 ft lb rating, but they're rare to come across. Most MD stuff rated...

    Recirculating Return Line Fuel?

Need to return the fuel to the tank. Even if the system is "completely sealed", air will still find a way in eventually, and a circulation system like you have will never remove the air from the system. Plus, with your design, I feel filter changes would be a real biotch. Something that you've...

    Lift pump mechanical or electrical?

I don't know if diesel necessarily wears it out, but the seals in it might not be 100% compatible with diesel. I was looking into availability of a high volume mechanical lift pump, and a lot of places that off high volume mechanical lift pumps couldn't guarantee their pumps were diesel fuel...

    Lift pump mechanical or electrical?

I've always liked your setup and how it's ran off the cold advance. I've looked into doing something similar using a cheap cube pump with a built in check valve. The mechanical pump should have a pair of check valves installed internally, so a paralleled e-pump shouldn't backfeed fuel into a...

MV446 Gas swap to 6.9 diesel IH med duty

RH - 1805054C3 LH - 1800708C2 Both numbers we're taken off my spare engine sitting under the bench. I believe it was in a 92 7.3 NA out of a box truck. Not sure on compatibility, do your research.

    Idi extreme coolant pressure/leakage

Being a 7.3, it could be a cracked block as well........ Regardless, with cooling system pressure and a bunch of bubbles you're looking at a big repair.

    Idi extreme coolant pressure/leakage

If your hose is expanding that much, it's either junk or the cap is. No way a good radiator hose will expand that much at 15psi. Replace the hoses, and use a cooling system pressure tester to find the leak. Remove alternators, power steering pumps, cowling, etc. to find the leak.

OIL PAN MODIFICATION FOR COLD WEATHER STARTING

At 212 degrees Fahrenheit. If your oil's normal operating temp is below that, the 5w40 will be thinner then a 15w40, and your pressure will be less. How much is anyone's guess. So long as the engine isn't worn out, and regular oci's are followed, you won't have issues with low oil pressure from...

    countershaft in zf 5

There's a lot of stuff that's shrink fit. It's not a particularly odd or complicated process, and it's been around for centuries. No need to cut it off. A good press and bearing splitter will take care of it. Piston pins have been installed using shrink fit for years, and you cut nothing to get...

    No fuel to the injectors.

No, I mean why didn't you have fuel to the injectors and in the pump?

Good news! What'd you correct with it?

    countershaft in zf 5

I guess I'm confused here. 4th gear is direct in a zf5, meaning there is no gear-gear contact and the countershaft would be irrelevant. What's considered the 4th gear on the countershaft is actually the gear that meshes with the input shaft. I'm not sure how you managed to wreck the teeth on it...

    Self oil burning

Lock stitching is something you can do to save it. But what's it going to cost? On a classic oldsmobile or some other rare head, it's worth doing. On one of these engines, I'd be hesitant because reman'd heads that are ready to install are available. I'm honestly surprised the machine shop even...

    countershaft in zf 5

I'd look into using a better press. I'd hate to see you heat the thing up so hot that it softens and ruins it. We have a 30 ton shop press, and I've never struggled to get something pressed apart. Typically I'll break a hidden/forgotten snap ring or something before the press gives up.

OIL PAN MODIFICATION FOR COLD WEATHER STARTING

It's not a bad idea, but you have to realize that the block heater and pan heaters do different things. The block heater heats the coolant and heads, which aids in starting an engine that is heat reliant for running(diesel). To get a diesel running, you need some sort of method to heat the...
