Owner operator basic maintenance yes or no

You can catch a lot of minor problems before they turn into to major problems by just going around and greasing a machine yourself. Doing basic maintenance is a good way of inspecting the machine.

Those of you with the Hypermax Turbo Setup

I found that 6 degrees vs 8 gives the similar results. The 6 degree reading may be a true 6 degrees, might be 5 might be 8. Take and add up possible variances in the crank, timing pointer/pickup tube/front cover, and the damper a couple of degrees seems very possible, not to mention variances...

Any good deals on transmission jacks?

Use a piece of pipe, pilot bearing is in the flywheel. The pilot pounds out from the other side of the flywheel once removed from the crank.

    More oil talk

15w-40 synthetic kind of defeats the purpose for cold startup. The 15 is how a straight 15 weight oil would flow when cold. The 40 reflects operating temperature and is how a straight 40 weight would flow at operating temperature (212 F). At operating temperature a 0w-40, 5w-40 and 15w-40...

    Article On Waterless Cooling

I would say that since there is no water in evans coolant it will be much more resistant to cavitating. Evans coolant is great problem solver, I use it in my dirtbike so I can billy goat around on slow trails and not boilover.

    Ford TTB

Would have been nice if all the ttb were coil springs. The leafs just do not contort in the needed manner as the coilsprings, which are cheaper and easier to replace then leaves.

    One-piece front window/vent window eliminator

Definitely a way to get the vent windows to seal. Spent the $40 to find the aftermarket vent seals leave visible gaps and the 33 year old originals still seal better. the aftermarket seals do a good job of taking up shelf space, hard to throw out brand new parts. Even if one could find OEM I...

    HELP! Banks Sidewinder TE06H.

That's not probably bad considering a mitsubishi turbo, and it is a pane to remove as some of the nuts are covered by the wastegate and very difficult to access. A few years ago Banks wanted $1200 for the turbo.

    drive shaft issues

Take a picture of the slip yoke. Does it have enough travel to extend when the rearend drops? Most the time the splines would pull past the seal, but the seal may be preventing it from pulling out and pulling on the carrier.

    Just another homemade POP tester

Made a version like this with o-ring plugs. Got the same comments about the cap. Did a second version where the plug and jack has been tapped for 1/8 pipe threads and a hydraulic union connects them. Would have liked to eliminate the whole reservoir and cylinder, but just was not a decent way...

Brake master cylinder: vacuum vs. hydroboost?

I left the stock cast iron 1-1/8" master cylinder and pedal, when I swapped for hydro boost. Master cylinder slide right onto the hydroboost. If I upgraded the master cylinder I would have needed to change fittings on the brake lines or find adapters. On the 84 the brake pedal pushrod was in...

Pic Of Your 83-86 4x4 Shifter

Probably not the greatest idea. Lube pump is driven off the rear output shaft, if its not spinning there no oil being pumped to the top of the transfer case.

    7/8" Hex brass return caps

Mic fresh orings installed on a injector and compare. I am guesing about .010 to .020 interference. Also you will want to have chamfered edges for the orings on the step and outside edge.

    7/8" Hex brass return caps

I think this relates to why I have parts sitting around for a fourth axis for the cnc mill but have not put it all together. Fourth axis would allow machining a cap with far fewer setups.

    Wheel balancer and now driveshafts

Played a little bit more with the front driveshaft using the accelerometer and voltmeter, varying weight and position. Could not improve on the transfer case side, but improved the front just a bit. Found out the setup is sensitive to 5 grams of weight and 5 degrees of position. Took it for...

    Gear vendors question.

There dead simple to pull apart, the only trick is the snap ring that is accessed form the top cover with two bolts and you will need some sort of spanner wrench to pull and inspect the accumulator, pump and filter. manual for a type J which is very close to the p

    Gear vendors question.

You would have two items failing. One the cone clutch on the direct clutch is not holding. Could be the clutch lining is shot, springs engange the clutch into direct, or the overdrive pistons are not releasing causing the clutch not to engage. Overdrive is engaged by applying hydraulic...
