Intermittent violent engine shaking, possible misfire.

I didn’t touch my rear main when I swapped flywheels, it wasn’t leaking so I left it alone. Plenty of people do it preventatively, but they are fiddly to install and you may end up with a leak when you didn’t have one before. One other thing I would be prepared for is a buggered up input shaft...

    Rear axle questions

I was thinking more in terms of temperature. I’m not going to be towing heavy for long distances in 4wd, so the front diff fluid is never going to be seeing sustained 200+ degrees. The rear axle might, so I wanted the 140 weight heavy-duty fluid back there.

    Rear axle questions

I figure the front isn’t as critical so I run the cheaper oil there. Sounds like I could have gotten away with the 80w90 in both based on everybody else’s comments.

    Rear axle questions

I’m pretty sure synthetic 75w140 is recommended for the rear diff. I run 80w90 dino in the front though.

Clutch pedal stiff & doesn’t engage the clutch when depressed, also pedal gets stuck when coming back out?

I would disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the lever on the pedal bracket assembly up under the dash. That way you can see if the clutch pedal moves normally when it’s not connected to anything. This should tell you whether the problem is in the pedal assembly or farther down the line...

I thought I had the only good one in the world lol.

    Need a IP Adjustment Tool

I bet you could cut that shape out of a hardwood board like oak or maple and it would hold up just fine.

New tach sensor but still inaccurate reading.

On my truck, the flexible circuit board on the back of the gauge cluster is cracking and separating. First the fuel gauge went, and now the tach only works about half the time. If you have the same issue you can run a jumper wire to bypass the crack in the circuit board. While you have the...

    mechanical lift pump repairable?

Since the IDI lift pump has the same bolt pattern and gasket shape as a small block Chevy, is there any reason we couldn’t take a quality fuel pump for a carburated SBC and swap or modify the cam arm (if necessary)? I haven’t done any research on them, but there have to be good SBC fuel pumps...

Using mech fuel pump as an air compressor??

I think like sniklas said, oiling would be the main problem with the A/C compressor. You’d have to keep it lubed, but all the oil you add is going to end up wherever your compressed air is going unless you separate it down the line somehow.

Using mech fuel pump as an air compressor??

I know it’s not designed for it, but there are people in the off-road community who convert their air conditioning compressor to provide compressed air instead. Here’s one example from YouTube: I’m sure someone could come up with a good way to keep it oiled, but if I remember right this guy...

Using mech fuel pump as an air compressor??

I agree that the fuel pump probably wouldn’t work, but I have seen people use the A/C compressor for this purpose.

    HElP! I bought Jake_IN 7.3 with a dead cyl

Sorry I’m no expert, I was just browsing Amazon. I saw some there like this one that have a 4mm (0.154in) diameter camera, half the width of mine: https://a.co/d/5v1sQpr Here’s the one I have, like I said it’s a cheapo and too big to get through the precup. It did work great to pinpoint the...

    HElP! I bought Jake_IN 7.3 with a dead cyl

I think if you had a really tiny and flexible bore scope it could work. The precut opening is angled to point right at where the valves would hit the piston, and the inside of the precup has a curved surface that would guide the camera towards the hole. My cheapo bore scope couldnt do it, but I...

    HElP! I bought Jake_IN 7.3 with a dead cyl

I’m glad someone picked it up, I was definitely tempted. I have a set of heads in my shop right now, and my bore scope wouldn’t fit down the hole for the injector nozzle. I measured a nozzle and it was about 0.285”, so if your bore scope head is smaller than that it might work.

Yes this is a good point I forgot about. You want a later axle if possible for the more durable long pinion.

    Exhaust manifold bolts discontinued

Hey guys I’m gathering parts to do my head gaskets, and it appears that the exhaust manifold bolts (Part F4TZ-9S425-B) have been discontinued. Have you guys had luck re-using your old ones? I understand that the bolts are a special interference thread to keep them from backing out. Has anyone...

    Rear axle questions

I used a moog 459 u joint, other brands will have the same #. It’s a combination 1350 and 1330F u joint. The 1330F is a special Ford version of the 1330. I also should say that I don’t know whether the differences between axles had to do with the year difference or the f250/f350 difference, so...

    Rear axle questions

I don’t know for sure what year the VSS was first installed, but my 89 had one. I think early on they were only used for ABS, and then starting in 92 they were used for the tach as well. I put an axle from a 97 F350 in my 89 F250, and I did have to get a special conversion U joint to connect to...

    7.3 IDI Return Cap #2 & #8 won't seal

The only thing I would add is to make sure your steel injector lines aren’t bent out of shape. When they’re unscrewed from the injectors they should naturally want to sit right above them, not an inch or two to the side. That’s the only time I’ve had trouble getting o-rings to seal.

    Where to cut

I’m sure there is a flow difference between a 1” long restriction and a 2 foot restricted section, but if it were me I’d do it the easy way anyway. If you do a custom y pipe or a true dual exhaust, just make sure you leave enough room to pull the transmission without having to remove the whole...

    Hydroboost Conversion

One other thing to add if you’re building yourself a kit with parts bought off rock auto: neither the hydroboost unit nor the new master cylinder come with the pushrod. The hydroboost instructions will tell you to re-use your pushrod from your old hydroboost, but if you’re upgrading from vacuum...
