slack adjusters: manual vs auto
I wonder how anyone would know what the truck originally came with? I tried to manually adjust the one that isn't working, and it doesn't turn. it will loosen up, but not tighten. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, there is a little spring loaded button I hold out it a screwdriver, than turn...- dondiesel444

my Dad has two 3406b's, they both start like that. the one he had in-framed less than 30,000 miles ago and it carries on when started cold and blows lotsa white smoke. the engine is real tight, so it's just the way those engines are I guess. the other one blows some black smoke b/c it's...- dondiesel444

dt466's are awsome cold starting engines. my Int'l 4900 was a 1991 mechanical with 230,000 miles on it. when in the single digits, it would start un-assisted, it didn't even have a block heater. slack adjusters: manual vs auto
My old Int'l had manual slack adjusters, and now my Mack has automatic. I don't think one of the rear is working, can I change the auto's to manuals? I don't see why not. I kinda like knowing that the brakes are adjusted properly. I can see where auto's are better on tri-axle trucks pulling...- dondiesel444

thanks bud:) I wish the snow would melt and it would warm up so I can get back to work:( I've only made about 6-7 loads with the Mack since I got it. I still have to work on the brakes, find a Jake Brake, and get it painted, but no work=no money.... :shoot: snow- dondiesel444

I just picked up a new truck. it's a 1985 Mack R-model single axle with a EM-6 300 engine, and a 9 speed Road Ranger and rides on 11r22.5 fronts on Alcoas and lo-pro 22.5's in the back on steelies. it was a tractor but I just put a 9' dump on it. hey Duke, I had a Bendix on my Int'l. it was mounted in a real bad spot, outside the frame rail on the passenger side right behind the exhaust stack. in the winter the blow off valve would stick/freeze and it would leak- dondiesel444
