OIL PAN MODIFICATION FOR COLD WEATHER STARTING

When I was still living in Minnesota, I used the stock block heater and an electric battery blanket on both batteries. The battery blankets were 100 watt each if I remember right. I had the blankets and the block heater plugged in to a three way cord that I had zipped tied to the passenger side...

    Injector Lines / Kit for a '93 F-250 7.3 IDI

Try the nearest International dealer or Ford dealer. I got a new #7 injector line from a Ford dealer in Temecula, Cal. But they had to order it and it took a week to get it.

Getting harder to start. Slow cranks then faster cranks.

My truck started acting like this earlier this year and it turned out to be the starter was just wearing out. It was about 5 years old since it's last rebuild.

Brand new glow plugs, still no start

If all the glow plug wire connectors are good then check for voltage at each glow plug. If the voltage is good then try bypassing the glow plug controller with a manual switch and see if the truck starts properly or not. If it starts then you know the glow plug controller is bad. See...

So what did you do with your truck today?

The good news: I replaced the o-rings on my return lines today. The bad news: I split the line nut on the #7 injector line when re-installing it. So now I need to find a replacement #7 line and injector because the threads are buggered up too. I love it when everything goes to plan. Sarc.!!

    With & Without Brakes

The vacuum line from the pump should connect to a distribution tee on the fire wall that all of the other vacuum lines connected to the tee. I connected my vacuum gauge to this distribution tee and by plugging and unplugging the other vacuum lines to the tee I was able to isolate any parts of...

    With & Without Brakes

The glob of silicone holding a wire on top of the fuel filter could be sealing a air leak in the fuel heater connection.

    Self oil burning

Some times depending on the metal alloy you need to use a slow speed grinder ( <500 rpm) and more pressure to prevent localized work hardening of the metal surface. I found this out when I had to hand grind a titanium shim for a aircraft part I was installing years ago when I used to work in the...

I think I'm in for a nightmare, broken exhaust bolt, rearmost driver's side in an '86 e350

If you can't find a drill adapter locally you could try one of the aircraft supply houses online. Check out this place for example: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/categories/building_materials/bm/menus/to/drill_extensions.html

    Self oil burning

Has anyone ever done a flow bench test on their heads before and after porting them to determine the results?

Newer injections pump going bad? Weird symptoms. Just creeping along

It might also be crud or shower head pieces from the fuel tanks temporarily clogging the fuel selector switch/valve.

    Googlefu is weak

I ended up getting a Champion 3-Core aluminum radiator because I couldn't afford to get my stock one re-cored. This was in April 2021, and so far it has held up to our towing our 36ft, 9000lb, travel trailer from Mankato Minnesota to Box Elder South Dakota with no problems. I can't remember the...

Not to beat a dead horse..

When pulling our 9000lb trailer up hill with the peddle to the floor I still only reach about 2800-3000 rpm. I don't think a stock 6.9 or 7.3 will do much more even tubo charged. Unless you remove the governor.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Nice job on the wire brush fish scales on your new dash.

Finding an engine stand for an IDI, not easy

Do you have the tools, material and skill to build your own stand? If you do, then get er done. If not, do you know someone that could build one for you?

Where to get injector copper washers in-store?

I don't know if you can order them separately, but I usually got them in return line replacement kits. Sometimes listed as injector installation kits.

    French 7,3l doesn't crank

Sounds to me that part of your problem is the starter is turning the engine too slow. I replaced my starter last week because it was doing the same as yours and my truck wouldn't start when it was hot.

7.3 IDI No start when hot

I thought my IP was having hot start problems recently, but it turned out to be my starter was dying and wasn't cranking the engine over fast enough when hot. Got a new Mitsubishi style starter and the truck starts right up every time even when it was 107* the other day.

    1992 rear axle

Sometimes there is a ID tag on the differential cover. Also the tag on the door frame should give a axle code that you can look up.

Cannot have a single good day

Sounds like the starter to me, or the solenoid on the starter. My truck just refused to turnover and it turned out to be the solenoid on the starter.

How soon do I need a new IP?

The water came from a gallon jug I had in the bed of the truck and was pretty warm considering the temperature that day was 103*. I have only poured water on the IP twice, and both times I had to move the truck right away and couldn't wait for it to cool off naturally. James

    Kansas killed my 7.3 n/a

In my case the gas and diesel pumps were next to each other and had the same color pumps and handles. The only difference was the smaller labels under the price windows and the price per gallon which is what I noticed before I did any damage to my truck.

    Kansas killed my 7.3 n/a

Sounds like you may have accidentally pumped gas instead of diesel into your truck. I almost did that yesterday at a Sinclare station because the pumps and handles were marked in a confusing manner to me. I talked to the station attendant about it and she told me they have people pump the wrong...

How soon do I need a new IP?

Just found a full hookup site for $620 a month a few miles outside of Rapid City starting tomorrow. That should give me the time to replace my IP. Thanks again for the help. James

How soon do I need a new IP?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am trying to find a place we can afford to stay for the rest of the month in the Rapid City area so I can have the time to take care of this problem. Just a FYI, my father bought this truck used back around 1999 and I have had it since 2002. It has been a...
