    Electric fuel pump

On the subject of fuel pumps, I use a three way toggle switch that will run the pump when there is oil pressure, always, or never. The first mode is normal. The second is for testing, flushing and can help starting. The third is for running other things when you don,t want the pump running.

    Electric fuel pump

I never expected it to pull a hill, and was not claiming a supply pump is not needed. It was in the context of the restricted supply system warning light. The point is, the IP has the ability to pull much more than we might think. I drove off normally up to 50 MPH on flat ground with the pump...

    Electric fuel pump

None of the pumps I show need a return line. I tossed the stock filter in favor of a two micron Racor. The only filter related light I recall is the one that indicates it is dirty. The IP is capable of pulling a vacuum from the fuel supply system, but it is not supposed to. If the IP does...

    Electric fuel pump

All those pumps are sold as carburetor system pumps. One way or another they are self limiting. The pump in the second pic I have used on that van since the early nineties. I had three for a while, one for each tank. I could pump a tank dry to a carburetor because a carburetor doesn't mind...

    Electric fuel pump

Look at the first few pics. That is a two micron Racor filter before the pump. That pump has been supplying the engine for about fifteen years. There is no return line, no need. The vehicle is an 84, it shipped with a 460, and never had a mechanical pump...

    Gutting CDR valve?

I am on the road now but will check my stock when I get home. I have been calling mine Mann, I have seen the product and talked to Mann at SEMA, and I think mine are real, but I did not pay $150 for them. The marketing channel can make a big difference. You can read the label on mine here...

    Gutting CDR valve?

You should be cautious telling people they cannot do what they are actually doing. Mann separators are serious products.

    Gutting CDR valve?

There will be a slight vacuum at the intake to the compressor. There will be positive pressure in the intake manifold. You need to plug the hole in the intake manifold where the CDR connected to the intake manifold. I found liquid oil tended to escape the CDR port in the valley pan. So I...

    Gutting CDR valve?

That CDR is the only way for blow-by to get out of the crankcase. The blow-by gets pulled into the intake. With a turbo there is usually at least some positive pressure in the intake, and no gas being pulled from the crankcase. The valley gasket I used came with a CDR port plug. I added...

    Tire shop: rant/question...

Sometimes when lug nuts get loose interesting things can happen. Look at six pics toward the bottom of this album. https://goo.gl/photos/hQSWmXVQ6HsMVWzh6 This is my 2001 PSD. It weighs 12K#. Best I can determine, the inside tire picked up that screw, the tire deflated, that set up a...

    AC resurrection and questions

Also, in a seemingly functional system, a joint that is wet from system oil is evidence of a slow leak.

Alternator swivel bolt and nut trouble

The fuel filter was put on the engine for assembly reasons. I got the filters on both my IDI and 01 PSD off the engines years ago. Huge change in maintenance accessibility.

7.3 idi electric fuel pump problems and questions

Near the top of this album there is some pump info here you may find useful. There are some captions. https://goo.gl/photos/LJNV4esgmYmSzKdL8

    AC resurrection and questions

I had a compressor shaft leak and UV die and soap suds were no help. I found the leak by submerging it in a tub of water and pressurizing it. It actually took a while for bubbles to start. Longer than soap suds lasted. If you have an R12 system it is not necessary to change to R134. I have...

    1993 7.3 idi issue

Replacing an IP is not real difficult. I also had a sudden onset of hard hot start. It occurred in W VA, I live in SoCal. It started in a restaurant parking lot and got terminal at the end of a back country State Park. At the time I was preparing to add a turbo and was carrying a turbo...

Wholly crap she ran away on me

3G alternators are a bolt-on replacement. The regulator is bolted to the alternator. It can be connected as one-wire, NO, you don't need to get a Chevy alternator. If you want a light - you should - then connect it as a two wire. I have six vehicles that run. Five are 1984 or older. All...

    PENSACOLA DIESEL

Two things. Don't expect the lines to fit out-of-the-box. If the line is not square with the injector it can seem to be tight but will leak. The fitting cannot pull the line straight. You must make it straight. And yes, those steel lines are difficult to form correctly.

    Electronic fuel pump conversion

My van has had at least two of these since about 1995. That is 460, before turbo and after turbo. I think I had one wear out in that time. https://photos.app.goo.gl/JJvgbhPM5gAQEGfZ9

    Electronic fuel pump conversion

I doubt Carter makes those pumps. I have one that came in a Carter box on my 65 Mustang. It probably has thirty thousand miles on it. I have three more in another brand, and I cannot tell the difference. One of those ran three times, for a few seconds each time and froze. I have a second...

    Electronic fuel pump conversion

I have a 2001 PSD E350 and an 84 in which I first installed a 7.3 IDI NA and recently a 93 7.3 IDI turbo engine. After I installed the first 7.3 IDI, I figured the two engines are the same size, Ford might have known what they were doing when the put the turbo on the PSD, so I installed a turbo...

    Electronic fuel pump conversion

Here is some of my fuel pump history. Read the captions. The current pump has a check valve. Also note the filter. At least twice I have driven off with the pump turned off and the engine did not seem to notice. When I got the van it would not go over about 25 mph because the in-tank pump...

    CDR relocation

I relocated mine to the trash. The evolution of mine starts at pic 16. After the Mann you can run it to the air intake, the exhaust, or air. https://goo.gl/photos/LJNV4esgmYmSzKdL8 My 2001 PSD apparently just has a line from one valve cover to the air intake.

c6 to e4od swap. Worth it?

I started with a 1984 E350/460/C6/3.04 rear. Replaced the C6 with an E4OD/Baumman. Replaced the 460 with an 89 IDI/diesel E4OD. Replaced the 3.04 rear with a 3.5 dually. Added a remote turbo that was intended for a 2001 PSD. Replaced the 89 IDI with a 93 turbo IDI. The current E4OD I built...
