Yes, all lights come on during cranking (the schematic confirms that the fuel filter and the overtemp light only test with the switch in Start, not Run).
It seems to climb gradually to 5.5. No instant "jump" except maybe to 2 psi when I first hit it.
Factory except for Banks downpipe. 3" exhaust with Walker round truck muffler.
Also, I shortened the wastegate rod three turns before installing the turbo.
Thanks, I'll check those once the weather improves ;)
Wouldn't it take a huge (and therefore audible) leak to bleed off that much of the gases that are supposed to spin the turbine? The up-pipe is at least a couple inches in diameter... I will feel and look for soot.
I do run a Facet 40285...
I finally got a chance to drive my newly-turboed 7.3 IDI on the highway. I had been seeing 5-6 psi boost on the bumpy dirt roads, and figured once I did some fast runs it would make more. Pump turned up two flats, but it's of unknown age, as are the injectors (odometer has 189k but I think it's...
Follow-up: I replaced the probe with an $18 generic one. The gauge, as I expected, works properly and gives the expected readings while driving.
However, the original probe also now works when connected to the Triplett panel meter! Go figure. :dunno
There must be an intermittent short somewhere...
I have noticed in the last couple of years that Autozone has more defective parts right out-of-the box. Much less trouble at O'Reilly although their prices are slightly higher. You get what you pay for (sometimes) :sly
I think it almost has to be the electronics since the unit is functioning but the times are "wrong". Although 18 seconds doesn't sound way too long if it's -5F, the six-second reglow is weird.
What is your injection timing set to? I've read that too much (?) timing can eat glow plugs.
This has...
Today I replaced a slightly-leaking pair of adapters I'd cobbled up (for my braided turbo oil feed line) with the correct steel AN to NPT part, installed a one-pin connector in the feed line to my electric fuel pump relay (that extra wire always seems to be in the way of something I need to...
6 ft-lb is much softer than you think it is :) I have an inch-pound torque wrench and was quite surprised how gentle 72 in-lb is.
I'd also recommend turning the spreaders over to be sure they have an arch that's high in the center (hole) and low on each end.
Nice trucks, and welcome to the forum.
I looked closely at the antique cars, half expecting to see an IDI :D
The AN fittings and hose look nice for your fuel supply lines, but must have cost as much as the Facet pump! Did you have them already, or just wanted it to work and look good?
I just replace the gaskets, myself :sly
But I agree, they can leak oil from very hard-to-see places, which runs down along the head and drips in unpredictable locations too. I had a leak from the front of my passenger-side cover that drove me nuts... finally I discovered that some crud in the...
Removed the cap from the airbox nipple, screwed the Filter Minder on, closed the hood :)
Also got a new pyro probe and checked it with ice and boiling water. Too tired to crawl under the truck and replace the defective one today.
True... I don't really need one, and others just leave them off... so I am not sure what the market price is ;) Let me know for what money you might be induced to throw one in a box :sly
My inspection cover was missing when I got the truck, but I still want to put one back on... just feel like my zipper's down ;) Anyone got one to sell cheap?
Break out the voltmeter... check at the batteries, the various connections and finally at the starter itself. It's a simple circuit, won't be hard to find the weak spot.
Yeah, they use salt or calcium by the truckload up there. Mine at least doesn't have any rust, except where a previous idiot torched holes in the bed to jerry-rig a gooseneck ball. I can fix mechanical stuff but proper rust repair is very tedious and expensive.
Also you can reseal the front cover while you're in there. It is SO much easier to work on an engine when it's not in the truck ;)
Edit: oops, looks like it's already in the truck! Still probably worth it.
The shop put two different size batteries in it? cookoo
When I bought my truck it had two almost new Group 31's (I'm sure he burned up the old batteries since there was an air intrusion problem)... sitting cockeyed in the trays, no hold downs, and a piece of a Peterbilt rubber mud flap...
