Turbo time thanks to head gasket leak

Yes- and that is one of the two on that side I'm using. Since it was the most difficult to get to, I installed an elbow into it along with oil supply line before I bolted the exhaust manifold up. The other end of that line is temporarily secured into the 1/8 NPT oil galley port forward of that...

Turbo time thanks to head gasket leak

Almost There So Sunday saw the power steering pump & A/C compressor re-installed (after a long internet search for the bracket configuration) the vacuum pump & alternator got mounted up also. All belts re-installed and radiator hoses mounted onto engine. A buddy is coming over tonight to help...

    88 idi voltage problems

Yes they will, also being 3G's.. The wiring mods consist of eliminating most of the old voltage regulator wires and making a new, heavier charging cable to the battery or solenoid, depending who's method you like best.

    88 idi voltage problems

Yes, but it wasn't too bad. I kept the multi wire plug to the old regulator and just used one hole in it for the single wire (and I can't remember which one now) that had to stay. I think it was the "ON" wire from ignition, but not sure. After I verified that all worked as it should I just taped...

    88 idi voltage problems

My 3G accepted the double pulley just fine.. I put the serpentine style pulley on the old one to take it back to the parts store fore the core return.

    88 idi voltage problems

Swap in a 200A 3G, and you can run the whole island with it.. Before you do that though, take a weekend and go through the entire underhood electrical system- disconnect, inspect, clean, NO-ALOX, and reconnect all of the connections, including grounds. Unless you have been on-point recently with...

Turbo time thanks to head gasket leak

Back To Work.. Today was Road Draft Tube day, so I fabbed up the exhaust insert tube and installed it. The aerodynamics of the RDT insert tube and Exhaust pipe wall are important enough to warrant a few minutes consideration before any metal cutting. We want to minimize the intrusion of a...

    Zombie Slayer: Coolant Filter Install

Perfectly. A 3/4" PEX (or "Sharkbite") barb fitting works perfectly with 5/8" heater hose or fuel vapor hose. I'm using their valves with coolant and fuel, both still work like the day they were installed, zero leakage.

    Zombie Slayer: Coolant Filter Install

I am hooking things back up this morning and it just so happens that heater hoses were next on the list, and things were camera ready so to speak.. The way I ended up doing it actually gives me the option of going inline or bypass (*wasn't planned for that, was done for efficiency). In winter I...

    Zombie Slayer: Coolant Filter Install

Sometimes my daughter calls Henry "The apocalypse machine"- and the VBV on my Ag-tag just automatically got assigned "Very Big Vehicle".. I did the coolant bypass filter with the valve to isolate the heater core, it works well, but you only change the valve position twice a year, so not frequent...

    Cheap Homemade Power?!

Hmm, I put together a nice water/meth system for about $150, works great and only took about 4 hours to fabricate and install, $500-$600 for a system is what people who have more money than creativity pay..

So what did you do with your truck today?

Drilled & tapped exhaust manifolds for - and installed EGT probes. Cleaned, trimmed & re-bent cable guide at front main ground stud on block, then cleaned and re-installed starter cables and new block heater cord. Fabbed a very short jumper out of a piece of spare battery cable from regular...

How to keep pumps from being messed with?

I like IDIoit's idea- but with a more workable variation.. Without hotrod brothers knowledge, do the pyro Mc Guyver thing, but the switch output goes to a normally closed solenoid that opens on a 12V signal.. The hotwire to the fuel shutoff solenoid would of course be the interrupted...

Banks Sidewinder will be no more.

No great loss the way I see it, it's too easy to build build a better "kit" from scratch..

Going to do a coolant filter few questions

If you have enough stock hose then use it and supplement only as needed. Mine is on a fabbed bracket next to the fuel filter because I don't like crawling under the truck unless I have to- much more convenient to just pop the hood. Measure carefully when you make your bracket, you've got to...

    Project Blue Goose Build Thread

I rented an engine hoist to pull my engine, and maybe I was just lucky, but it was large enough and adjustable enough (even in 1 ton adjustment) that I had no problem lifting the engine over the radiator mount. I did of course take the radiator out before this. I just really couldn't see doing...

    7.3IDI -VS- 7.3Marine IDI

Duh! I knew that- brain fart, sorry.. 205 is where my engine typically runs unless it's 96 in the shade and I'm pushing it hard, then it will go all the way to 210-215..

If that is the case, then why do we have 205° thermostats? Do we actually want our engines to run at a temp lower than this? I don't understand...

    AMSoil ATF in ZF?

What typ4 said.. Sounds like a nice short project for today, drain and refill with the Amsoil. Amsoil is all I use, for oil and their ATF. I can't say enough good things about their products. Please don't waste it as fuel.;Really

Turbo time thanks to head gasket leak

OK, well there are two plugs under the oil cooler, the forward most of which IS under a motor mount, the next one further back is not. The third one is on the flange at the back of the block where the transmission mounts. Which one are you talking about?
