Reversing and stomping the brakes is literally the process to make the auto adjust, so no, don't do that.
Personally I would pull the drum to see what's going on. All you need to back it off is 2 screw drivers.

They should be different sizes.
I would say keep cranking.
The orings in the quick connections can leak in air though.

They are the same. GMC is usually just the fancier version.
Also, if you're used to fords, it will seem like the guage moves a lot. Beings ford didn't use a real gauge, it's just a idiot light ran off a pressure switch.

My mistake, it's internal to the trans, I mainly meant look into how the system works.

If towing, most aren't happy with converting the axle from drum to disc.
Better off swapping whole axle.
There's nothing really wrong with rear drums, but for whatever reason, it seems like ford couldn't figure out a good auto adjust setup.
